Skyfall: A nod to Bonds past, but a major leap forward

Skyfall strips the James Bond franchise down to it's essentials, with affectionate nods to past adventures along the way (the Walther PPK, the Aston Martin, Q and Moneypenny). But rather than simply wallow in nostalgia, the movie also reshapes Bond to truly fit the modern age; something Casino Royale began, but more in set dressing (the use of cellphones and computers) than actual story line. Gone are over the top supervillains with outlandish fortresses in space or stroking their cats in hallowed out volcanoes. Today's threats are more internal and tenacious (a rogue agent who seeks revenge through cyberterrorism and is not hellbent on ruling the world so much as turning it upside down). A recently injured Bond also must rediscover essential truths about himself in order to regain full confidence. It's also one hell of a ride, too! This may very well be the most personal Bond movie; but it's not a soap opera by any means. One of the best Bonds in years.

Non-stop action!

From start to finish, the action never stops in this latest Bond thriller. Daniel Craig is THE Bond of our time with a performance that is honest, gritty and entirely believable. Despite my dismay at having a gay villain (too many people already believe gays are evil and this won't help) Javier Badem's portrayal of a twisted former agent gone crazy after being 'given up' to be tortured for months as a political pawn is chilling and heart wrenching all at once. Keeping with tradition, Bond travels to several exotic locales leaving me with an overwhelming desire to book passage to Shang Hai asap. With lots of nods to the original Bond films from the 60's, this film has something for fans of all ages.

From the theme song by Adele to the incredible acting by Judy Dench in the near-to-the-end scenes, this movie is incredible enough to watch at least 3 times in IMAX (which I will most certainly do). FIVE STARS our of FIVE STARS from me!

I really enjoyed this latest Bond movie. I wasn't sure what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. Most of us in the theater had similar reactions to certain plot points - we cheered at the same time. It is difficult to review it without giving anything away, so I'll just say that if you are a Bond fan, and a Daniel Craig fan, you will enjoy this movie. Daniel Craig is quickly becoming my favorite Bond! And he doesn't even get naked in this one! Oops! I just gave something away! But ladies, there is plenty of Daniel to enjoy, don't worry. Go and see it!

AMAZING in IMAX

Bond movies are always ridiculous, but this one is also truly thrilling and engaging. And the IMAX is so, so worth the extra dollars, you literally get pulled into the action. One complaint -- maybe a tad long towards the end. Otherwise, a great, entertaining movie.
