I thoroughly disliked the first hour of this movie. The rest was ok, but the payoff at the end was satisfying. Overall, I felt it was a contrived love story. It was unbelievable and interesting at the same time and the good cast couldn't win me over. Jennifer Lawrence is the only one that came close to outpacing prior performances. I was disappointed in this one, but the ending made it ok......thus the +.

Jennifer Lawrence continues to grow in front of our eyes....absolutely talented and exciting to watch. Bradley Cooper a surprise .... Played this role to perfection. The two of them together were perfect, acerbic chemistry. De Niro went back to some of his old acting talent and became the character that he needed to be. Exceptionally smart writing. Script even seemed improvisational, it flowed so easily and quirky like we actually speak in real life. Beginning a bit manic-y but it becomes apparent why as movie progresses. Will see it again!

Exceptional movie. it is a Tour De Force of unstoppable humanity in the face of emotional defeat. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence provide over the top performances and their chemistry is pure hot fusion. Bradley Cooper's portrayal of Pat Solatano is pure genius - he is that guy -- a bi-polar obsessive compulsive who just got out of a mental institution and is intent on getting his life back. Jennifer Lawrence is his mirror opposite and when the two get together for unfiltered conversation -- it moves you to a depth very rarely ever achieved in cinema. You have got to see this Movie!!!

What a lovely "little move". Okay, the outcome is predictable...but happy endings are a treat these days. The acting is super...down to the smallest parts. The settings believable. The dialogue intelligent...even when it's poking fun at itself. A much better two hours than sseveral of this season's "major" pictures.

I went to see this last night in NY not really knowing what to expect. I read a few things previously, then saw Bradley Cooper doing a tv promo and decided to definitely check it out. I loved it and thought it was funny and quirky and heartfelt and different. It made me feel like I was seeing something more unique than the usual movie fare, and I go to the movies often. The cast was great - I kind of fell in love with Bradley Cooper (he was really good in this role) and it was nice to see Jennifer Lawrence in something completely different after seeing her in "Hunger Games." Robert DeNiro was also very good, I liked seeing a more vulnerable side of him in the "dad" role. I really wish Chris Tucker was used more, he is funny and his role was too limited to me. The entire supporting cast shined in the group scenes especially. I actually may go see this again next week. It really stayed with me for some reason, I think because it showed flawed people in all their beautiful glory.
