My wife and I alternate choosing which movie to see - this was her turn.
However, I was more than pleasantly surprised. This was not an ordinary "chick-flick".
This movie was real - you could imagine the scenario playing out exactly as depicted - and the characters were super developed and "true to life".
The movie nailed the adult child moving back in to older parents as well as crazed football families and Italian households.
I love happy endings, and this movie did not disappoint!

I only decided to watch this movie after the very high critic scores and rotten tomato rating. I had no idea what is was about. Silver Linings Playbook is a glimpse into a world that many people struggle with everyday and many others have no idea exists. There's a lot of good crazy and sad crazy in this movie.
Bradley Cooper plays a character you root for but your not sure if the outcome will be positive. There are definitely some uncomfortable moments that may make you cringe in your seat. I'm glad I saw this well done depiction of an unconventional love story and personal triumph over the inner demons many with mental disorders face everyday.
A lot is to be said of the acting in this movie. A job well done to the cast!

The ads for this movie made it seem like a comedy but it isn't. The first 15 mins. or so were mildly interesting, the last 20 mins. were ok, also. BUt through most of it my friend and I were both bored throughout most of it. The acting was superb, however.

Silver Linings Playbook was well played and well directed. Initially I wasn't sure I wanted to enter the world of a bi-polar man--but it was skillfully done and ended up being well worthwhile.

Movie started out strong with a realistic portrayal of (severe) mental illness and its effects on family and friends, great writing, direction, and spot-on performances by Cooper and Lawrence. First 2/3 of the movie was well done and drew you in, enough to make you uncomfortable during certain scenes [excellent] .
But then..........somebody apparently decided it was too serious and changed the direction of the movie into a farce rom-com. ??? It went from an emotionally acurate account of two people with almost insurmountable bi-polar, depression, and anxiety issues to........ a dance competition to save dad's restaurant. Seriously. And Coopers character's bi-polar and manic issues magically disappeared without benefit of medication, therapy, or intervention.
Who knocked it out of the park in this movie? Jennifer Lawrence nailed it, due to her tremendous acting range and the fact that her character was written consistantly from beginning to end.
