Fans of the first film will love the return to Silent Hill. We get to see the continuation of the story in full 3D - and it's actually not as cheesy as you might expect. Here we find a tale about underground cults, alternate dimensions, and the splitting of souls. Fascinating stuff. The movie is not truly scary - but - the scenes when "the darkness comes" are genuinely unsettling. There are also some moments of very thick tension. There is enough reality injected to make the craziness seem almost plausible, The protagonist is lovable, yet very snarky and biting - as one would expect of someone raised by a single father and who has been on the run after the death of her mother. The ending is believable enough, and I appreciate the lack of a "last scare" scam. Nevertheless, I smell a sequel - after all there were several video games in this franchise.

Other than the odd sisterly method used to destroy Alessa, I thought the overall story was decent. The CG ash, fog and shadows were the best of the 3D factor. It's kind of a turn off when a movie adds gimmicky jutting weaponry purely for the sake of 3D.

Scary, nightmare inducing creatures drive this well but slightly altered story from the books and games that keep us coming back for more. Will the cameos of players in number 2 be just the slight bit of info. needed to keep the hunger alive for the release of number 3? I say yes!
Awesome, headscratching, great entrtainment.

If you want to see SH3 morphed into a movie, sorry this aint it, but it does create a bit of a new and interesting story that follows the first movie, I am a big SH fan and I did enjoy this movie quiet a bit, i'm actually thinking of going again

"Don't go to Silent Hill". Seriously. You WILL be disappointed. I shelled out $29 for tickets to see this in 3D and then another $12 for a popcorn and drink. All that money just to watch the worst movie I have seen in a theater in years. The acting was horrible, especially when it came to dialogue exchanged between father and daughter and the script was so dang cheesy anyway. There were big plot holes. Excuse me, I meant to say huge, gigantic, gaping plot holes. On top of that, the movie in general was extremely boring. It doesn't take too much to keep my attention during a movie, but wow, I was nearly falling asleep in my seat. The attempts at jump scenes were horrible and didn't even surprise me at all. The scene on the carousel was the worst. A hugging "fight scene"? Seriously? No epic battle or showdown of any sort between Sharon & Alessa? No sort of good vs. evil? Just an embrace? What on Earth were the writers thinking? All in all, please do not waste your money on this movie!
