So Seriously Cheesy It Could Easily Become A Cult Comedy.

The first "Silent Hill" is related to this one in title only. I always try to find something nice to say about a movie because I know it took bunches of people and gazillions of dollars and months to even years to bring it to the screen. In this case, I kind of wish they'd opted to let the first one stand as a monolith of horror. Sadly, it's all about the money, especially in movies. And it shows here. For all the genuinely artful special effects and camera work, the elaborate make up and set designs, you'd think they'd have spent at least some of that budget on a decent screenplay. Not a chance, and that's what makes this among the most comically awful horror movies, or perhaps movies in general, that this viewer has ever seen. For perspective on that last comment, I see hundreds of films on screen in theaters each year. It's what I do for fun and what I've been doing for fun for more than a decade now. Skip this one. You'll be glad you did. Insist on more for your money.

Good suspense

The game is much creepier but this is a good adaptation of the story. The best thing is that it's not full of unnecessary gore which doesn't scare you but only gives you an urge to throw-up like most horror movies in this post-Saw era do (boo, and thumbs-down to those). Of course being based on the game too, the story isn't about a bunch of teenage kids getting butchered by a psychopath or evil beasts and therefore is actually enjoyable. Silent Hill relies on the good old method of developing a suspenseful situation and then give it a nice finish to make you jump off your seat (so to speak). It's nothing against the movie itself, but 3D is as pointless in this movie as it is in the remaining 99.8%, so if you don't have an insatiable desire to put on 3D glasses and pay the extra money, you won't miss anything watching the non-3D version.

Silent Hill 3D review

Went to see this movie last night....Total FAILfor me. The acting was horrible. The graphics were good, they could have utilized the 3D aspect of movie way more than they did. There is acturally a HUGGING...yes HUGGING fight scene (for those who seen this movie know what I am talking about). I can usually deal with bad acting if the effects and graphics are good, but when all three are less than bad it becomes thumbs down all the way, Sorry for Silent Hill fans, but this could've been WAY better with all the effects and technology outlets that are available. I did enjoy the previews before the movie...

I read the reviews on this movie, but it still didnt deter me. Having never played a Silent Hill video game I cant comment on the comparison between the movie and the video game series but hope the video games are a lot better. The acting was subpar at best (but presuming that's NOT why anyone would see this movie) but the effects were cool....Unfortunately I see another sequel in the future...hopefully FAR into the future and better acting...
