Sidney Algier
Date of Birth
Dec 05, 1889
Birth Place:
Shamokin, PA

A well-known vaudeville and burlesque comic in his day, Sidney Algier turned his talents to films in 1915, having, as he stated, become increasingly "dissatisfied with the legitimate stage." Writing and starring for the American Company as early as 1915, Algier enjoyed some popularity opposite Winifred Greenwood in that company's Spider Barlow series. He quickly left acting to others, however, becoming instead a busy assistant director and production manager on a host of low-budget productions, a career that lasted well into the sound era and even included scenario writing and second unit directing. Long in retirement, he died of a heart attack. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi
