Really good murder mystery thriller--or is it?. It grabbed me early on. I've had a few major side effects reactions in my life and a period where I was in medical limbo suffering and I think a lot of people will relate to the beginning of the story. Then it gets really engrossing. Great cast and I got my popcorn-worth with this one. Loved it. (where'd I put that bottle of Prozac?) what was I saying...?

It was all "in there".
Great acting by all.
More importantly was the screen play and the narrative.
That was totally superb. Showed the cunning nature of man...in this case, a woman.
I didn't budge an inch from my seat during the entire movie...it was rivetting.

Walked out during movie. Dark, slow, depressing! This movie is based around a girl taking the current anti-depression drugs and the side effects. If you want to listen to someone's problems with depression -- then this movie is for you. The anti-depression drugs, Zoloft, all the SSRI's mentioned, a lot of people take today. These drugs say "may cause suicidal thoughts, dry mouth, nausea, etc......". Do not send a child to this movie if they are taking any SSRI meds or even ADHD meds.
I do not recommend this movie.
A Bad Review

This film builds slowly, at first leading the audience to question its point, in addition to its plot. Turns out, that is the point, precisely. Skillfully, methodically, the writer steadily brings focus to what becomes one of the smartest plays on screen for some time. While this movie may not appeal to those with short attention spans or ones who must have constant stimulation, the rest should be pleasantly entertained. Adults only of course. This screenplay is absolutely masterful and well worth experiencing. Both Zeta-Jones and Mara execute their roles with precision and near perfection. Jude Law provides a balanced believability to this plot as well. The one deficit, if it can be called that, is that Tatum wasn’t given enough with which to work. However, with each new film he grows as an actor. It seems at long last he learning his chops. At the current rate, his will be a commanding presence on the screen during middle age. See this film. You won’t be disappointed.

I honestly LOVED "Side Effects"! It's quite a cerebral-type of thriller, and truly brings into question all those great moral and ethical dilemmas we see in the headlines today. Did the doctor exercise his best judgment? Is the medical community unduly influenced by personal gain due to their consultative relationships with the major pharmaceutical companies? Even more important, why is our society currently so prone to self-medicate?
The acting is great all-around, and I find it difficult to believe that director Steven Soderbergh claims this is his last film. Let's hope he's not quitting Hollywood and just taking a sabbatical. At any rate, "Side Effects" is a must.
