This movie is full of twists and turns. It plays out like a murder thriller, but it's so much more than that. There's a great deal of attention placed on the drug industry and the pills they push knowing that there are deadly side effects. However, there are several layers at play. Is someone trying to exploit those weaknesses in the drug industry to get away with murder? There are subtle hints throughout and plenty of shocking revelations. Jude Law is terrific, but Channing Tatum has a minor role and is only in the first quarter of the film.

Yet another case of some talking head movie critic going on a morning talk show and raving wildly about a movie and the movie itself not living up to the rave.
This movie is ok and the twist at the end is a surpise but dangggggg, it takes a looonnnnggg time to get there with lots of useless throw away shots that do not advance the plot imo.
On the plus side, Rooney Mara is really good though she plays yet another dark, moody edgy character. would be nice to see her in something light and upbeat to see if she has the chops for that. I really like her, but would just like to see her do something that isn't so derivative of her role in The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo.
Jude Law is excellent and carries the movie imo. Great actor!
All in all, an ok but not exceptional movie, critic's opinion not withstanding.
I think some critics are too much a part of the Hollywood movie industry and will offer up a positive review of a movie just because they like certain actors, directors etc.

Steven Soderbergh gifts audiences exactly what they paid for: terrific acting, compelling script, enough twists, spins to cement one’s attention; thrilling, solid, earnest entertainment...
“Side Effects” references the healthy/debilitating effects of prescription medication; medication to ward off the black void of depression, derailment of normalcy; viewers, beyond the age of reason, recognize that we inhabit a pill-popping society; stroll the aisles of your local pharmacy, there are over-the-counter drugs for a myriad of ailments: insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, weight issues, head, back, joint pain; with the swipe of a credit card they can be yours; but a doctor has to prescribe the strong stuff; curing extremes: anxiety, self-destructiveness, catastrophic mood swings; the positive always imbued with the negative, aka “side effects”...
THREE & 1/2 STARS!!!

It was a very powerful and serious movie. Everyone should see it, except for children under the age of 13, in my opinion. There were surprises in the movie which kept me interested.
