WASTE OF TIME - UNIMAGINATIVE.

I SAW THE FREE PRESS PREVIEW LAST NIGHT. AND IT IS TIME BETTER SPENT DOING SOMETHING ELSE. NOT EVEN WORTH RENTING.

JUST ANOTHER RUN-OF-THE-MILL 'JAPANESE-TYPE' SCARY FLICK THAT HAS LOTS OF FALSE SCARES - AND FEW REAL CREEPINESS. THERE IS A LACK OF IMAGINATION IN SHORING UP THE SCARES FOR THE AUDIENCE - MOST PEOPLE WERE LAUGHING AND GIGGLING THEMSELVES SILLY DURING THIS MOVIE.

WEAK PLOT - I AM NOT EVEN GOING TO DIGNIFY THIS MOVIE BY GOING INTO 'PLOT' DETAILS.

THE GHOST (AND MAKE-UP EFFECTS) LACKS 'SCARE'. A GRITTY UNWASHED HOMELESS PERSON WITH NO MAKE-UP IS SCARIER.

AND YES, WE GET TO SEE YET ANOTHER SCENE OF A FEMALE GHOST SITTING BY THE DRESSER COMBING HER HAIR. CLICHE!! DUH!

MY SUGGESTION FOR GOOD JAPANESE (OR 'JAPANESE-TYPE') HORROR FLICKS - YOU ARE BETTER OFF RENTING THE JAPANESE VERSIONS OF 'THE GRUDGE' AND 'THE RING' (RINGU).

THE LACK-LUSTER MEDIOCRE ACTING (AND OVER-ACTING) BY THE CAST IS SHEER TORTURE.

'SHUTTER' IS A DEFINITE NON-STARTER.

Shutter was not a Dudder

I actually liked this movie. Yes it's someone predictable, but so are 99% of the movies out there. The premis was interesting, but could have been better. Shutter has a very similar theme to The Grudge (but not as good). In order of movies, I would say The Ring > The Grudge > Shutter.

Good points: The leads were decent (Joshua Jackson & Rachel Taylor) and the ending was satisfying. The main ghost (played by Megumi Tanaka) was a good choice, but I wanted more surreal effects to go with her look.

Week points: Relatively poor plot development. Lack of creepy "Ring-like" jerky movement; the ghost made too many natural "human" kinds of movements.

All in all, I would give this movie a C+ and say it's worth the price of a matinee ticket, just don't set your expectations way up there.

Good Flick

After reading most of the posts here I went into the movie thinking it was going to be terrible. I thought it was good though. I think the people who didn't like it are looking for blood and gore, which this movie didn't have a lot of. It wasn't real scarey but I thought it was well done. Both my wife and I thought it was better than The Grudge. I only bring that up because it has been already compaired to The Grudge on these boards.

Oh man, this movie had such potental.... a kick A story line about ghosts appearing in a still picture... cool right? Sounds like a awesome story that COULD go far. But fell flat half way though! Not enough explanation about some parts of the story & too mauch about some. The ending left me giggling & not from fright!

Similar to The Grudge movies

This movie is very similar to the Grudge movies, but it's not quite as intense. I enjoyed it, but my friend thought it was better saved as a rental. If there's nothing else great showing in the theator, then you won't be wasting your time on this one.

pretty good

this movie was a good movie and it made me jump and scream just a little bit.
however i didnt like how the movie ended. it left you with no bam it was kind of a dud at the ending.
but other than that it was a great movie.

i was somewhat ok with this movie, i thought it was a overall good movie. i would not say at all that it is scary. some things where put in this movie that were in the grudge and the ring. ialso go confused in the middle but at least it brought me back in to the story. i would say wait to rent it, deffintely see it though

I just saw this and it was a great thriller! I loved this because it was scary but it did at the end seem like it would keep on going and going.

this movie was okay. i was sitting between my two friends, they were squeezing my hands and screaming while i was sitting there, not giving much of an expression.
i started laughing at some of the most "suspensful" parts, because they were so stupid.
if you want to see it, i suggest you rent it from Blockbuster.

The movie overall was pretty decent, and there's plenty of jump-out-of-your-seat moments and a few twists, but I have to say that the ending was disappointing. It fit with the movie, I suppose, but it didn't leave me itching for a sequel. It's probably a good idea to go if you're into photography and know how a blackroom works - it'll get you thinking next time you develop a picture.

I suggest going and seeing it yourself, but don't get your hopes too high.

This is the worst movie I've ever seen. It freely borrows every hackneyed horror device ever done by much better directors and has absolutely no idea what is scary. In fact, some of the scenes were so ridiculous, the audience was laughing hysterically instead of gripping the arms of their seats. Don't waste your money. Shutter makes you shudder...but for all the wrong reasons.

Shutter is a very interesting movie. Other than the fact is has actors in it that are not so well known, the movie isn't that bad. I am not a person who enjoys horror/suspense movies, so I was reluctant to see it, but it wasn't that bad. The plot is very tidious and there are alot of twists and turns that make you question, but I was kind of confused the way through. There are some shots where it is noticeable that there was some "goofs" but other than that, it was okay. If you are expecting scary, don't count on it. It's more of a creepy movie than it is gory, or horror-esk. However, if you like suspense, his movie is chock full of it. I wouldn't see it again though because the thrill is gone.
PLOT:
Basically there is a girl and these two lovers are haunted by her when the woman accidentally kills her. Little does the couple know that she is linked to some of the husband's past. That's all I can really say about the plot because if not it will ruin the suspense that is involved

I loved this movie! If 28 Days later is a 10 ++, this still makes an 8 - maybe even a 9. It is so well made, ad though it follows the typical Horror movie schematic, remains surprising and exciting and fresh all the way through. The actors didn't annoy at all actually. Especially the girl - she was wonderful. Most of the time the "girlfriend" characters in horror movies annoy me endlessly, but this one is quite refreshing and honest. the message and theme are also quite pertinent and meaningful.
