I saw September Dawn
Well, having been a Mormon, I finally did my research and found that the Mormon church is just as culpable today as they were back when Sept. Dawn occurred over 150 yrs. ago. They do NOT want you to know about their past and they hide it at all costs today. I've studied in depth this sad event in Mormonism's history and found that most of it was portrayed accurately but even though it's perceived as biased, they've excluded many details that were much more horrid than the film portrays. Of course the 'sanitized church' trying to veer its members to only 'faith-promoting' areas of study, if they were being truthful, they'd verify this sad saga in their history, confirm that there were grave mistakes made and then try to bring adherence through their honesty. But no, they know their history will only bring shame and a mass exodus upon their heads and thus, they will do anything to hide these kinds of things in order to continue to receive contributions to the magnitude they are.

Oui. I knew it before I saw it.
I felt like I needed to take a shower after the movie. I had read the reviews before seeing the movie and can say I was properly warned. But, in my natural style, I was drawn by the story and hoped for at least some redeeming qualities. Ok, there was one redeeming moment. About thirty seconds of some beautiful Canadian cinematography. For a few seconds, I almost had a smile on my face. For the other 1 hour, 49 and 1/2 minutes, I was in pain. The pathetic love story, the open hateful bigotry and missed opportunity to tell this story had me wishing I wasn't there.
I regret that my $8.50 contributed to helped this production achieve even the tiniest amount of success. It's clear from the box office numbers, there is gratefully a very small market for this type of hateful spew.

September Dawn
This movie is both a documentary of a real event and a fictional Romeo & Juliett story in one. As a documentary, it is excellent! Contrary to other critics' unresearched thoughts, the words that Brighan Young stated are his - from testimony and Mormon records. There was some artistic license in the scenes, but none of them took away from the true part of the story. This atrocity has been covered up from "1st Presidency" (the Leader of the LDS Church - also called the "prophet") to 1st Presidency ever since it happened.
It is an important documentary - the first 9-11, and the worst mass murder of innocents in history up to the Oklahoma City Bombing. The R&J fiction was a great way to get people to see the real story.
Chris Cain and the folks who acted did an excellent job. I believe this will become an historical classic as time goes on.
