Delightful if a bit contrived

'Mr. Banks' is a lovely, entertaining and touching film, even if a tad contrived. (It's pure Disney, after all!) While my top pick among Oscar-contending films this season remains PHILOMENA (with Judi Dench), this is a very fine film.

Being a fan of Mary Poppins for almost 50 years (I was an usher in a theater that showed it for over 6 months straight) I loved this film. It is full of laughs, a great story-line and even may bring you to tears toward the end. Superb acting!

Saving Mr. Banks - no climax

Not funny enough to keep me entertained. No romance, no suspense, no climax. Not enough going on for a two hour movie. Each scene is about the Disney team presenting their ideas for the Mary Poppins movie to the author who is bitter and prudish and shoots down their ideas over and over again. Every time she shoots down their ideas there is a flashback to her childhood. It gets a little repetitive, then finally comes to an end.

Can't stop thinking about this beautifully told story and the sound track that was woven in. If ever you were a fan of Mary Poppins' or just like great acting and wonderful stories go and see this movie!

We really enjoyed this movie. As usual Tom Hanks was great and so were Emma Thompson and the other actors. It was interesting to hear the story behind Mary Poppins. The movie is definitely best for children over 13. My husband and I both said"What a good movie!" as it ended.
