Canadian Keeler was the prototypical '30s musical-comedy star. She got her start on Broadway and became famous when she married the much older Al Jolson. Her biggest success came as the guileless heroine of several Busby Berkeley-directed musicals, often opposite Dick Powell. Following her divorce from Jolson, she retired from films and made only a few appearances until her comeback in No, No, Nanette on Broadway in 1970. Her best-known films include Forty-Second Street (1933), Footlight Parade (1933), Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933), Dames (1934) and Go Into Your Dance (1935), her only film with Jolson. ~ All Movie Guide
