To count down the final hours to the film's opening at midnight, Warner Bros. is launching an Ultimate Fan Celebration at Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, from 9 p.m. to midnight. Though 33% of you predicted Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 to gross over $160 million in its opening weekend, your strong support couldn't get the numbers up quite that high (wait till part two hits in July, and then we'll talk). Instead, 25% of you were right on the money in predicting a total number somewhere between $120-140 million, as Deathly Hallows: Part 1 wound up taking in a whopping $125 million, which shattered the franchise record of $102 million set by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire back in 2005. Furthermore, thanks to you, Fandango wound up selling 17% of that box office take, which made us the number one destination for all things Harry Potter (tickets and otherwise) in advance of this monstrous opening. So thanks! That number, assuming it holds up, will give the film the sixth biggest opening weekend of all time, and slot it right behind Iron Man 2, which opened with $128 million.

Creating the Potterverse, and re-creating it seven times over, is a daunting task. While the franchise's enchanting elements rely heavily on CG and special effects, a gargantuan part of the behind-the-scenes bewitching is aided by the makeup, prosthetics and props departments, animatronic creature creation lab, and set design. 'G-Force' topples `Harry Potter' at box office

An elite squad of guinea pigs has worked its own brand of magic at the box office, taking the No. 1 spot from boy wizard Harry Potter.

The 3-D "G-Force" was the top movie at the box office this weekend, opening with $32.2 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. The Walt Disney release from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, with its mixture of live action and computer-generated animation, is a "Mission: Impossible"-style adventure. It features voiceover work from Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Tracy Morgan and Penelope Cruz as resourceful rodents.

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," the sixth movie installment of J.K. Rowling's book series, took in more than $158 million at the box office over its first five days, a sum that's a little lower than initial estimates but still a much bigger haul than its predecessor.

The last movie, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," grossed $139.7 million domestically in its first five days two years ago.

Harry Potter continues to work box-office alchemy, turning his latest movie adventure into an overnight blockbuster.

The sixth installment, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," took in $79.5 million domestically over opening weekend and $159.7 million since debuting last Wednesday, according to estimates from distributor Warner Bros. on Sunday.

A long school break has been kind to "Harry Potter."

After a two-year gap since the last film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" opened with a whopping $58.2 million domestically in its first day, distributor Warner Bros. said Thursday.

"Half-Blood Prince" also conjured up $45.8 million in 33 other countries where it opened Wednesday, among them Great Britain, France, Germany, Australia and Japan. That gave the film a worldwide total of $104 million.

Domestically, the movie had the best single-day haul yet for the franchise and the fourth-best daily gross ever, behind last year's "The Dark Knight" at $67.2 million, this summer's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" at $62 million and 2007's "Spider-Man 3" at $59.8 million.
