This 2006 production of "The Marriage of Figaro" was extremely well done, with a very evenly balanced and wonderfully fresh-sounding cast.
The sets by David MacVicar were spot-on in presenting this as an intimate, in-house drama in which everyone's feelings were made quite apparent.
The acting of the cast matched the high standard of the singing and the orchestral playing, all under the expert direction of Antonio Pappano, combined to make this a highly enjoyable performance. Occasionally the strings covered the woodwinds, but the balance between the pit and the stage was handled very well.
The camera work and BBC recording kept us engaged throughout with careful discretion between full stage shots and individual closeups, letting us enjoy the fine costuming and the sets.
All told, this was a wonderful evening in which humor and pathos were mixed, inducing appropriate laughter from the cinema audience. Thanks to all involved!
