Acting is Exceptional

We see why Orlando Bloom was discovered as a stage actor. Condola Rashad proves she is more than her pedigree and famous name. The rest of the cast is top notch. Christian Camargo as Mercutio makes me wonder why he isn't a household name already. Chuck Cooper brings a natural style to Lord Capulet. Jayne Houdyshell as Juliet's nurse and Brent Carver as the well intentioned Friar Lawrence are journeymen actors who could steal every scene if they wanted, but are too professional to try. Even Justin Guarini as poor Paris makes you forget his Am. Idol roots. Still, i found the sparse sets confusing, although they did help put the focus on the acting. I also didn't buy the love of R&J. I felt no chemistry, and they felt too old to be the rash young lovers. The whole never equaled the sum of its parts. Worth seeing but won't blow you away.

It was beautiful! I missed it while it was on Broadway so I had to resort to going to see the movie. I thought the cast was incredible and wish 10xs more that I saw it live!!
