I didn't really know that this was a musical...thought it was just a movie about rock. Not so...and in a good way. If you like rock, it was a two hour concert of great rock musical performances. It was such a talented cast...including several people who I had no Idea could sing that it is hard to pick out any one person to rave about. Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough are clearly gifted musical performers, attractive and down-right likable. I am not a fan of Alec Baldwin or Russell Brand, but they won me over. I know the Hollywood set doesn't like Tom Cruise, but this was an Academy Award performance. I didn't hear a single negative comment after the show or a single non-tapping food during it.

Since I was in my twenties during the eighties this show brought back a lot of memories. How anyone could fail to realize that this show is a 'musical' is beyond me, and it does a good job for the genre. Yes, the cast breaks into song constantly and in the seemingly weirdest places under the most unlikely circumstances - but that is what a musical does! It features MUSIC and lots of it! It isn't drama - it isn't Shakespeare - it is ROCK! Yes, it was cheesy, raunchy, sexual, low on major dialogue, etc. but it was a fun, feel good type movie that especially if you know the songs it will have you rocking along. Cruise did a great job - I was both fascinated and amazed (and sometimes creeped out) by his performance. He was the stereotypical 'rock god'! The best advice is to just not think - just go with the flow and enjoy the show/music. I found it to be very entertaining!

Easily the worst movie I've seen in a long, long time. The stars who attached themselves to this dud should be embarrased. Take songs from the top genereic-sounding bands of the 80's and put them to an extremely silly story line and you end up with this piece of dreck.

I really enjoyed this movie. Parts were definitely cheesy, but I expected that and I thought that those parts made it even funnier. Tom Cruise was EXCELLENT as the "Rock God." The only person that ruined the movie for me a bit was Julianne Hough. She overacted her character and made her "sickening sweet." Every time she sang I cringed a little bit- it was like a chipmunk. If she was recast I thought it would have been a perfect movie. To those who were surprised that there was so much singing should have done a little research. Rock of Ages is a Broadway musical- of course there was going to be a lot of singing. Make sure you look for the awesome cameos throughout the movie!

I had seen Rock of Ages on stage and really liked the show. It was very entertaining. The film version had real highs and lows. The music in the film was great and Tom Cruise's performance is worth the price of the ticket. However, the performances of some of the other main characters could have been stronger. Casting may have been the problem. That said I am still glad I saw the film.
