so glad I didn't hate it

This is one of my favorite childhood movies so I was definitely going in skeptical, but it was not that painful at all! There were several things that I wished had been done differently, but overall this is a great popcorn movie and the IMAX was sparkling, as usual. There are no awards on the horizon for this film, but I had a great time!

RoboCop 2014

This movie stayed very true to the originals, I think it was done so with respect for them. The old movies I grew up with and was very upset when I found out they were remaking it. Seeing it last night on the IMAX it was awesome. They follow the same storyline of the original, but they change a bunch of things around. They also have elements of the second and third one in this. I like how it's done without being cheesy or a total ripoff. Probably one of the best remakes ever done, top five or top ten for sure.

I have been a fan of RoboCop from the start. When I heard about the remake I was very happy. I was not disappointed when I got to see it on the I-Max. A new story for a new generation. Used some of the old catch phrases, and News breaks like the old film. I will be seeing it again, and when it come out is will join the other Robocop films in my collection.

The film is pretty - no one claim that the special effects were cut rate. But that prettiness also prevents the film from having any sense of actual grit. The ultra violence that ran through the original always reinforced why it was so difficult to clean up Detroit. This PG-13 rendition lacks the blood spilling that brings that point home. Also absent are credible villains. Keaton's character is glamorized for too much of the film to be the big bad. The corrupt cops and local crime lords don't intimidate enough and are dispatched with ease. Netflix the DVDs or BluRays of the unrated version of Verhoeven's original. Skip this dud.

Not as good as the original.

This is definitely a so-so movie. If you saw the original, then you will be sorely disappointed. The whole Samuel L. Jackson (Pat Novak) thing was so distracting. Michael Keaton was a bit annoying in the film. Some of the catch phrases like, "Dead or alive you're coming with me," did not sound right coming from Joel Kinnaman as they did with Peter Weller. I wish I would have kept my $42.00 in my pocket. It's definitely entertainment, but it could've worked out well on my 60" plasma and blu-ray player at home.
