My son and I saw this movie. GREAT!!!! Cinematography was spectacular. The writing leaves some things unanswered but there's going to be another movie so it's a cliff hanger! The "apes" were fantastic. This movie is more for teens up. Little children could be freaked out at the fang displays by the apes in several scenes. I couldn't tell if the apes were real or not they are that good. It is fast-paced and parts I was on the edge of my seat.

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes"?
The apes don't even take over Marin county.
And then, while the credits roll there is an animation that depicts the spread of a deadly disease that kills most (all) the humans.
This movie had a lot of potential, and there are definitely some good parts...but the whole plot line with John Lithgow is very tedious, and could have been summed up under a minute.
James Franco's dad has Alzheimer's, and that is driving him to find cure...got it.
If you've seen the trailers, with the battle on the Golden Gate bridge, and (like me) you thought that this movie was going to be packed with action like that...we you'll be disappointed too.
James Franco and John Lithgow give the usual good performances, that you would expect from them, and the CGI work on the apes is phenomenal.
Many of the other characters (most notably Franco's boss) are unrealistically portrayed it's annoying.

This movie is very entertaining and well done. The thing that stuck with me was the underlying cruelty humans use to further our standing on this planet. The cause of the apes ascent is very believable and illustrates the dangers of tampering with nature. The CGI was well done and I like many in the theater were rooting for the apes. Definetely worth seeing.
