An Amazing Conclusion, Too Bad It Was Only One Night

Despite it only being a one night event, I'm still rating this as a "Must Go" because it also applies to The Dark Knight Rises in general. Without going into spoilers, all I can say is the movie escalated the scale and scope of Gotham in a stunning way. More importantly, Nolan and his other screenwriters truly make the story of the whole trilogy come full circle. This a story that has you cheering on good in a battle of ideals against evil. Of course, the big question many may ask is how it compared to The Avengers? Simply put, they are completely different movies. The Avengers is simple fun, but it lacks a grittiness that Rises had which made me and a fully packed theater sit in silent awe during the full 164 minutes. It provides true closure like a trilogy should always strive for. If you've been a fan of the first two movies this is definitely something you need to see. I, for one, know I'll be watching it more times this summer. I hope to see some of you there!

I hope Regal does more movie marathons like this. Not only was The Dark Knight Rises amazing, seeing Batman Begins and The Dark Knight again on the big screen, and right before the final installment, was incredibly fun. 9 hours of pure entertainment with good food, great friends, and great movies.

A Trilogy for the Ages...

To see all three movies back-to-back is to truly appreciate the vision and scope of Christopher Nolan, and to marvel at the genius of Heath Ledger's Joker, as both the first and the last movie, while similar in scope, lacked the tense and maniacal interplay between the villain and hero that The Dark Knight enjoyed. As for the last film, it's big, dark and intense, but Tom Hardy's Bane is no Joker, and you feel a sense of loss that both Ledger and his Joker are truly just a memory. There was no way to top that unless the toys were bigger, the fights longer, and the hero more conflicted, so that's what we get, and some of it feels staged at times, but all of it eventually satisfies. It was eight hours well spent. And with the exception of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, we've seen little of this type of thing add up to the type of quality Nolan has given us.

You can't beat 3 movies and a free small popcorn for $25. Lots of action and visual effects. I would definitely do it again! The Dark Knight Rises was very good.
