Worth the money and the time

This is not your fathers Red Dawn. This is a lighter (in the character development arena) treatment of the same topic. More explosions, more fighting, more action. Kept true to some parts and then veered off in others. On its own, it was a good movie and for those looking to be entertained, it does just that. If you're looking for a deep movie, keep looking. I would recommend it though and I saw lots of families in the theater who seemed to enjoy the movie as much as I did. OK for younger kids as well -- not too bloody and of course they had to use the 1-time "F" word for the PG-13 rating, not necessary, but I guess it's like a that second helping of pumpkin pie. You don't have to do it, you shouldn't do it, but you do it anyway because you can.

Not What I Expected

This was kind of a silly movie. The plot was not really that developed or believable. The idea that the North Korean military could successfully invade & occupy most of the United States is ridiculous. I would really like to see the North Koreans try to invade a state like Texas lol The plot never explains how all these Korean military units got into the US - except saying that an EMP & nuclear missile launch disrupted the "entire" infrastructure. It came across as a "B" rated movie with so-so acting & "cheesy" lines. I suppose if you're not expecting a somewhat plausible plot, this movie wouldn't be too bad. I found myself laughing most of the time - which isn't necessarily a bad thing!

I loved the original movie and own a copy of it but my wife was bored with it. This remake is soooooo much better! my wife even loved it. I love what they did with the story line. The only issue that I have with the movie is that it has way to much swearing in it. That wasn't needed to make this movie a good movie. Beware of the "F" word.

So Bad On So Many Levels

poor acting; zero character development; poor directing... while the original was ambitious...it benefited from having some young actors that delivered.... and the directing gave a broadness and depth to the fighting and what was at stake....this 'remash' does none of this.... save your money!!!!

A good adaptation and update of a personal favorite

I saw the first one when it premiered in the early 1980's and it has been one of my favorites. I was curious to see what they might do with the premise. It was very entertaining. Chris Hemsworth was great as Jed and Adrianne Palicki as Toni were excellent. Brett Cullen was awesome as Ted Eckert, the father of Jed and Matt- he did a lot with a very small role. Josh Peck was not particularly outstanding as Matt - he looked way too young next to Hemsworth and lacked the conviction. The whole "gotta rescue Erica" subplot was distracting. Josh Hutcherson as Robert was a bit wasted - either make him the tech guru with significant contribution or let him go stark raving mad like C. Thomas Howell did in the original. The updating required due to technology and warfare changes was generally well done. It is too bad they did not release it with the Chinese as the bad guys as filmed - a foreign policy "bow" they did not need to make.
