Great shoot-em up with lots of action and patriotism woven in. If you are a leftist....move on and go see the Life Of Pi. If you have red, white and blue blood watch it twice or more!

Red Dawn did NOT suck. They kept the spirit of the original and modernized it. It's still not better than the original but it came close and I liked it a lot even with the changes they made, there are little things from the original that you'll see. Oh, get this kiddies, it's WAY OPEN for a sequel. I think they want to do that so we can see what happens after the conclusion of the original. BTW, "The chair is against the wall"

Being a fan of the original movie with Patrick Swayze, Erin Grey, Thomas C. Howell; I was excited to see it remade with today's graphics and special effects.
I was SO disappointed. It was full of action, the actors were good, but the storyline was.....well there was none. It ruined the whole movie. Then when they tried to developed a storyline they went with the most implausible, cheesy one they would find. I mean, they went out of their way to make it bad. It was a waste of my night!

I liked it! I'd recommend seeing it. It's not the original, much more urban combat. And it's more action oriented where the original was more dramatic tension. That's not to say it's bad, I wasn't disappointed (But keep in mind that I set my expectations really low; I feel you have to whenever you see a remake.)
I could see quite easily the original characters being in these kind of situations. The names were the same. The characters were similar. There was enough different that it wasn't predictable. Oh, and the invasion actually began at dawn, which made more sense considering the title. :D

I saw the first one when it premiered in the early 1980's and it has been one of my favorites. I was curious to see what they might do with the premise.
It was very entertaining. Chris Hemsworth was great as Jed and Adrianne Palicki as Toni were excellent. Brett Cullen was awesome as Ted Eckert, the father of Jed and Matt- he did a lot with a very small role. Josh Peck was not particularly outstanding as Matt - he looked way too young next to Hemsworth and lacked the conviction. The whole "gotta rescue Erica" subplot was distracting. Josh Hutcherson as Robert was a bit wasted - either make him the tech guru with significant contribution or let him go stark raving mad like C. Thomas Howell did in the original.
The updating required due to technology and warfare changes was generally well done. It is too bad they did not release it with the Chinese as the bad guys as filmed - a foreign policy "bow" they did not need to make.
