    Wouldn't Recommend

     by  waynevicknair

the handheld camera work was a bit much for me. and, the score became grating after awhile. combine that with the depressing sub-plot (not the wedding) and i leapt out of my seat happy that the film was over.

    Skip This wedding

What a downer. This recovering addict attends her sister's wedding and decided to make it ALL ABOUT HER (sounds like my friends N, M and V).

The wedding was bizarre. I think Hollywood sometimes tries a little TOO HARD to feed America a perfect picture of integration. Here is an upper middle class family somewhere in Connecticut whose daughter (a PHD) is marrying this black nerd whose military family has lived all over the world. The crowd looked like an assembly of the united nations. The dresses of the bride and maids were Saris, and everyone else picked something bright, ethnic and absolutely sans republican.

Demme, tell the story; leave the social utopia for superhero movies.

    Rachel Getting Married

Terrific job by Princess Anne Hathaway. A little too self-consciously PC, but well worth seeing for Hathaway's performance and the great musical score.

Rachel Getting Married : How NOT to make amends

My wife and I really enjoyed Rachel Getting Married but it was rated as a comedy and it wasn't quite so funny as we had hoped. I am going to recommend this film to a friend who is in AA as an example of how NOT to do an amends- self-absorbingly interrupting a wedding toast with a blanket "I'm sorry".

It took a few minutes for us to shift from Ann Hathaway the good assistant to Meryl Streep in Devil Wears Prada to spoiled junkie, raw and new in her recovery. But it was a very good film showing families and sisters and roles in a dysfunctional but trying to cope family.
