Doesn't Disappoint

It’s good to see a movie about aging that doesn’t revolve around dying. This movie is really about aging gracefully. Dustin Hoffman did a great job casting this movie. Using some of the original stars in the film was a nice touch. Of course, Maggie Smith never disappoints. The scenery is lovely and the music and cinematography are an added bonus.

This is a very clever, visually stimulating, and artistically vibrant movie that charms and tickles you at the same time. Superb performances by a quartet of exceptionally talented actors, for me, clinches the "Best of 2013" nomination.

A Meditation on the Spark of Music

Amidst the fading sunset of old age, a delightful assembly of artists and musicians affirm the spark music puts in lives both young and old. Superb acting is supported by the presence of talented musicians in the cast. (Be sure to stay for the credits at the end of the film!) I could see the film again just to listen to the music. Caregivers will recognize the signs of aging (some quite muted and some not muted at all); I appreciated the respect shown to the many sights and sounds of aging by Mr. Hoffman and the actor in the film. Everyone at the showing I attended left smiling; so will you. Criticisms of sensibility and happiness are easy; cynicism takes little thought. Sorrow and angst, blood and terror, dysfunction and disgust; where is there room for hope in such films of today? Embrace the simple hope of Quartet. And, better yet, when you get home, invite some good friends over for an evening of music and laughter.

We really enjoyed this movie. The music was great and so was the acting. The humor is subtle but very funny. It's never too late to turn over a new leaf. This is not for kids, not that there is anything objectionable, young kids just won't relate to the situation.
