    Quartet is a Charmer

    by donnahu

This is a nice feel-good flick, but very well acted and enjoyable. The music of course, is wonderful, and the chance to see a wonderful group of retired musicians actually playing and singing is great. The four main characters are excellent. I especially enjoyed Pauline Collins.

    Sweet story

Love and romance know no age limits. Easy to like, clever dialogue, lush scenery and great casting. Nothing spectacular and nothing not to like. If you like the current collection of movies showcasing "elder" statemen and women (who doesn't like Maggie Smith?), you'll enjoy Quartet.

    Quartet

Thoroughly delightful. Beecham House is just the type of retirement community we would all like to move into when we get to be that age. If only we were all talented musicians.

    Quartet

Totally great, could have gone on for 2 more hours. Watching professionals know their lines and deliever them with style and ease and without a hint of aliens was unusual, and provided great entertainment. I couldn't recommend it more highly for anyone with a modicum of sensibility. Cheers to Dusty

    Quartet is funny and charming

Quartet is funny and charming. Even though I don't like opera, I do love music, and I appreciate the music throughout this movie. But the best part of this movie is it's humor.

    Very moving

I am a "senior musician," and I was very moved by this film The music is wonderful throughout, the setting is beautiful, and the story is "right on." The acting was superb, but reading the credits at the end was especially interesting - to learn about the musicians who performed in the film and where they were at the peak of their careers. They continue in their love and pursuit of great music. The young "rapper" and his classmates were wonderful - once again showing the impact that can be made with music education. Let's hear it for returning more music to our public schools! A wonderful movie that I'm telling my friends to see.

    Charming - GREAT CAST!

    by

Yes, of course I was going to see a film about aging opera singers, ESPECIALLY with the cast in this film. Seriously? Maggie Smith? Tom Courtenay? Pauline Collins? Michael Gambon? And Billy Connolly???? They are very simply wonderful, the dynamics are irresistable (as is Billy Connolly, but I've always had a thing for baritones, and he nails the type brilliantly). This is a charming, quiet film which deserves more attention. The music is wonderful, and although none of the actors are actually singers (with the wonderful exception of Dame Gwyneth Jones!), the director has handled that very well. I highly recommend this film to anyone who loves opera, great acting, and a good story.

    Terrifically funny!

Superb cast of actors that give you their best in this hilarious look at aging opera stars. Treat yourself to a fun experience of the elderly perspective of themselves.

    Quartet

I just read a New York Times article concerning this film.Quarter is far more than about the Arts, it displays the "Geezer under the microscope" with their frailties, humor, and of course, set backs. When we saw this film, the older folk of which we, ( my wife and I,) are a part of, applauded. For the young, it will give insight to the aging process

    Quartet

Wishing there had been more actual music playing by the members of the musicians retirement home, and perhaps a bit more of the back stories of the principal players Quartet was, nonetheless, a pleasing, even uplighting, film about friends helping friends grow older, and about artistic temperament in all its varieties. Quite a novel treatment. I liked it.

    Quartet

Amusing and artistically done film about aging musicians with a glimpse into how we all have redeemable qualities no matter how long we've allowed our "stuff" to become entrenched.
A good antidote for the feelings you are left with after watching Amour!

    Quartet

This is a glorious movie with absolutely lovely scenery and cinematography, gorgeous music, great humor and dialogue, a good old fashioned story with actual plot and a happy ending! What more could you want. Okay, cheaper popcorn but that isn't going to happen. I 'm not sure young people would enjoy this as much as older folks but it goes to the matter of being an oldster.
Dustin Hoffman has always acted in great movies now he has produced and directed one too!

Warm And Loving, A Very Pleasant Film.

While this film might appeal to a mostly older demographic, explanation for its limited release, it none the less delivers an engaging and entertaining audience experience. Produced and directed by Dustin Hoffman, the scene constructions show a legendary actor's touch. While this film has no superheroes (costumed ones anyway), fancy special effects, or exotic locations, it delivers a decently entertaining screenplay with solid performances. See it. You won't be disappointed.

This movie is a real treat!!

We throughly enjoyed this movie, the music & the acting were both extremely enjoyable. Maggie Smith was as always a delight, however the other actors did a wonderful job also. We were very impressed at how the actual musicians were used in the movie, & then given recognition for their past achievements in the closing credits. What a generous gesture that was! It was a pleasure to see actors who did not look like they'd spent thousands getting plastic surgery & who honestly embraced the aging process with no excuses. We will all be there someday & it's to the credit of Dustin Hoffman that aging was portrayed with such compassion & humor. The cinamatography was gorgeous too, the building & the grounds lent a beautiful background to the story & did credit to the english countryside. I had never heard of this movie before & am so glad I read the synopsis on Fandango or I might have missed it!
