    Rare Genre Rarely Done Well

    by OddWave

So back in Ancient History (60s) there was a sort of strange silly film called 'The Power' made by George Pal. There live amongst us the next step in evolution. Stronger, smarter and with strange psychic powers. And there are secret Government agencies looking into this. The Power must not have done well; a decade goes by and there's this strange big budget fantasy fillm called 'The Fury'. A secret Government agency kidnaps a secret agent's son who has psychic powers and experiments on him. The Fury must not have done well because nobody copycat-ed it either. A decade later David Cronenberg makes 'Scanners'. Low budget, better writing, gorier effects. Cult favorite but soon forgotten. And now TWO decades later 'Push'. So bad I'll have to wait Two More Decades! Sigh. The name, 'Push' doesn't refer to the main characters or their powers, so why call the film, 'Push'? Its a poor story poorly told. Too much telling us what is going on, not enough showing.

    push

Despised every minute of it. Couldn't wait for it to be over. Stupidest bull I've ever sat through.Total waste of our money. We went to the movies 5 weeks in a row now and the first 4 were awesome and this one really ruined our date night streak we had going.

    Push

The story line behind the movie ties in with the suspected conspiracy of international governments trying to use special people as weapons, was quite interesting. No needless action occured. The movie was plot driven with plenty of twists and turns which made the movie unpredictable. My wife and I saw this film and we left discussing details, and thinking that there should be a sequel because the captive was not set free in this episode of the drama. Exciting, interesting, humorous at times, and intense.

    Wow!! What a Movie!!

I hadn't really heard about this movie until it caught my eye on Fandango. Extremely well done - lots of action and, suspense. Keeps you guessing all the way to the end. I'm really surprised there isn't more interest in this one.

    Push...me off a cliff.

One day, many years ago, when I was but a wee lad, I got my genitals stuck in the zipper of my pants. Yesterday, I saw Push. I'm still undecided as to which was more painful.

Bottom line: this movie epitomizes the putrid stink that seems to be the Hollywood staple recently. The story was stupid, boring, and trite. The inconsistancies in this movie are dumbfounding; one minute the "hero" can't budge a die a few millimeters and the next day he's floating guns to people's heads from across the room. The special effects could have been fantastic, except they're LAAAME (see previous comment about floating guns). Dakota Fanning was the only half-way convincing actor and she was annoying, due to the teen 'tude that was forced on her.

The characters have several powers: watchers, sniffers, pushers, movers. I have the power to predict the future, and if you watch this film, you will sniff its inteptness, push yourself out of your seat, and move out of the theatre as quickly as possible.

    Good, but not great

Overall, I enjoyed Push. I actually liked that there wasn't constant fights, explosions, etc and one thing I really liked was that when people fought hand-to-hand, it was realistic. These people weren't trained to fight and they grapple and use anything they can get their hands on to defend themselves. Also, it showed the good and bad side to having these "talents"... it is good if YOU have them, bad if your opponent has them and is using them against you.

What I didn't like was that this movie lasted almost two hours! With a little editing, they could have cut it down to 1-1/2 hours without losing anything from the story. The ending also bugged a bit because there wasn't a lot of closure and it felt like they left it wide open for a sequel.

You won't lose out on the experience at all if you wait for the DVD release.

Not the Best Movie Ever but didn't suck.

The biggest fault I can find with this is I found the camerawork a little distracting at times; they played it like an art-house film and I personally think that was a mistake.

In spite of this technical issue, I did enjoy the movie quite a bit. Some say it's a cut-rate Heroes or X-Men. I say that's because they can't handle originality. And Push has quite a bit of that. It's a nice fresh look at psychic abilities; the only better in recent years was Minority Report. If you're into superhuman abilities in general and psychic in specific, you'll probably like this movie quite a bit. The effects are okay -- mostly nothing we haven't seen before, but can't complain, either. A few of the things they did were inspired.

I'd recommend it, but only to people who are used to thinking. Anyone who MUST be spoon-fed their entertainment should just go see Paul Blart or Pink Panther. You'll probably prefer those.

    So-So?????

I saw this movie on Friday, UNFORTUNATELY! Normally, I'm very fair, and I rarely would leave a comment on anything regarding movie reviews. HOWEVER; I'm hoping to save EVERYONE who would care to listen 10$!

I love fantasy and sci-fi, very much so. This, however, was a yawner! Very poorly produced, terrible disinterest- clearly present on the face of the cast, COUNTLESS slow motion "TIME CHEWING" scenes of characters walking down hallways, leading you to believe, "ALRIGHT, FINALLY, SOMETHING IS GOING TO SLAY ME!", .........to no avail.

This movie left me falling asleep before it was half over, and I watched 30% of the audience walk out, also before the half way point. I wish I'd joined them, taken the refund and gone to see" He's Just Not That Into You"........much better movie, BY FAR!(I know, I know, can you believe it?) I actually went to see Defiance, and sadly, to my heavy disappointment, I thought, "hey, a sci-fi "Jumper" type film, I'm on it"......OOPS! BORINGGGGGG!

    Nothing Like Being Pushed

Imagine yourself putting a loaded gun in your mouth and pulling the trigger all the while thinking nothing is going to happen because you've been "pushed" into believing the gun is empty, or having the ability to "move" anything just by thinking about it. The enjoyment from the movie comes from the ablility to put yourself into the place of the movers and the watchers. Once you start wondering just how amazing it would be to be more than "normal" you empathize with the characters and become emersed in the movie.

Don't let the lack of reviews stop you from seeing the movie.

    by Uhfgood

It was a good movie, the pacing was tight, and the acting was really well done. The effects were decent but it was not over-the-top as the story was the most important. It's got a little bit of Heroes, Jumper, and Star Wars in it, however it did not feel like it was copying any of them. It looks like it's setup for a sequel or two, however it is complete and it doesn't feel like the story was cut up like Jumper did. Overall I liked it. If I had to name a flaw, I would say it was the music. The music had some floaty, surreal feeling to it, which I'm sure was intended but it detracted from an otherwise top notch movie. It's a fun movie, so don't let the lack of reviews stop you from going.

    Jumper-haters beware.

I'm just gonna say that I liked the movie, I didn't really have any problems with it,
other than the fact that it started to get very confusing: how powers effect powers which effect other powers which makes other people forget things.
But I thought it was pretty good, it was watchable.
but sticking to the title, if you didn't like Jumper, you might not like Push.
I've never asked a Jumper-Hater WHY they didn't like it,
but regardless, they're two very similar movies.
    give it a shot.

    Very Good

    by qdark

I thought it was a very good movie, lots of action, good plot, and left the ability to make a sequel, which I hope they do.

Push me back in to the movie theater

I went to see this movie with my friend Josh and i had a really great time. :) This movie was really all they hyped it up to be..the ending was lame but thats my opinion. Other than that i would highly recomend you see this movie its totally awesome....it kinda makes you think how life would be if there really were people with these awesome powers. I f you dont really follow the movie all the way through, it is very likely you will get lost and confused. The actors played their parts well with the lead male actor being very similar to Chnning Tatum. The story line kept me in suspense all the way up to the very end. So they better come out with a sequel! It sure was nice to see Dakota Fanning play a more adult role and her drunk scene was wonderful. Overall, the casting was great. The special effects were believable. The story line was twisty which made the movie unpredictable.. I really enjoyed this movie and will buy it when it hits DVD and im likely go see it in theaters again!

    Push

I thought this movie was pretty good. It had a plot that you had to pay attention to otherwise you would be lost in the midst of popcorn or soda refill. I was disappointed however at the fact that the main character had powers he could not explain and did not learn to perfect it. I'm sure if we had his special ability we would be trying to learn everything we could about it and learn to control it (but hey, that's just me:-)
