Soulful, Timely Story

Beautiful story by Dave Eggers of a very real issue many Americans are facing right now. Gus Van Sant again directs a wonderful cast and the cinematography is gorgeous. Matt Damon, Frances McDormand and John Krasinski provide honest, moving performances as well as Hal Holbrook and Rosemarie DeWitt in supporting roles.

This is a sweet and sensitive film about a very important topic. Great cast and a very special performance by Hal Holbrook. So nice to an intelligent, beautiful film that doesn't need violence or special effects to keep your attention!

Funded by the Government of Abu Dhabi

All you need to know is that Abu Dhabi paid for this propaganda, Damon is a scummy mouthpiece for corporate Arabia. I prefer to see my $ go to hard working Americans trying to support their families but idiot traitor Damon wants to see it get funneled to Al Quaida so they can murder us which I guess he believes we deserve. I didn't see the movie but I think the only roles that come naturally to Damon are the homosexual ones that he seems to gravitate to.

An extremely important issue

I have a house in upstate NY in a small town just like the one portrayed in Promised Land. I thought the portrayal of the people and the politics was right on. I am a low key activist in the anti-fracking movement, and while this movie has its flaws, it does describe what's happening in the regions of the country that have Marcellus and Utica shale. The big gas companies are trying to take advantage of the poverty in these areas, and dangle the prospect of huge prospects in front of the noses of the people who are struggling the hardest. The reality is that some do get very rich, but the companies do not explain that your property - and perhaps your neighbors' as well, becomes toxified. The water supplies become polluted, and stream down into reservoirs that supply New York City and other regions. There is much more to know - seeing this movie will get your feet wet.

Promised Land - Review

i thought it was quite boring and was disappointed in Matt Damon's performance. Used to seeing him in rather exciting movies, like the Bourne Series, where the plot and action carry you along. In this movie he seemed to be sort of short and overweight, with a paunch, and certainly not handsome. Also did not project any real personality. The movie really just confirms America's opinion of Big Business as totally corrupt and immoral. They would do anything to make more millions. Very lack luster movie.
