    Lies tell me lies!

    by dbfgjco

Not only is the subject matter right in my wheelhouse, Damon et al bring the lies and distortion right into my backyard. Quite literally.

Oh, and did I mention that the film was partly funded by a state-owned media company in the United Arab Emirates?

Let the fact checking begin. Please let it begin!

The movie was an insult. Regardless of which way you feel about an issue you would like to have it go into enough depth to make you want study and discuss it after you leave the theater. This movie will not be on any ones top ten list. With the cast I would have expected much more.

    The Promised Land -really

Well acted....a message film. I am more than a little sympathetic to the enviorenmental position it is supporting, but I think the ending was a little improbable. consequently it may have damaged it cause more than helped it.

    Promises

Mat Damon is a good actor and the photographer captures American farms beautifully , however there is not much of a story. It makes a nice "Halmark movie" but with prices over ten dollars, they have to do a lot more to expect peo

    A movie about Integrity?

    by whemmer

Yes, believe it or not. No monsters emerging from the earth, no creatures with magic powers. No. Just an honest and refreshing tale about a man who loses his job but saves his soul. Co-written by Matt Damon, who leads a fine cast of major (McDormand, Krasinski, Holbrook) and minor characters, it doesn't try to preach or be holier-than-thou. A tale of personal transformation which poses some big questions about our society, but doesn't pretend to have the answers.
Those answers are left for the townspeople (and us) to wrestle with. Thanks, Matt Damon.

    better than expected

    by

I had high hopes for this, but after reading fan reviews and seeing the preview, I got discouraged. Finally went to see it today. What a great plot and it doesn't push any side on to you. The ending is great. Too bad it is rated R-the youth of our country should see it!!

He didnt let the facts get in the way

I'm sorry to say this has dropped Matt Damon down several notches in my opinion. His bias is so transparent he should be embarrassed. I read he had to adjust the story line because the truth kept getting in the way (those pesky facts). He must be one of the people who drives to a protest about oil & gas drilling.

If You Don't Take A Stand....

will you inspire discussion, debate and an exchange of ideas?

Promised Land pretends that it isn't taking sides, and, as a result it may not be as interesting as it might be. The ways to manipulate "us" are clearly outlined, the actors do a creditable job with the script, and the question about how far corporations in America are allowed to go, although clearly defined, are not addressed. In fact, there's not really a question, just a sorry outcome.

The movie's message seems to be that no matter how far we, as consumers go, the corporation will go further, and we will always end up on the short end of the bargin. There is always another patsy to take a corporate sales position and sell us a bill of goods.

At a time when we are all asking questions about these things, would it have been a welcome challenge to have something that inspired us to find answers, rather than just another vehicle to showcase the vast talents of Matt Damon?

    Big Disappointment

This movie could have been written by middle schoolers.....high-school kids could have done better, for sure. There was no advocacy for EITHER side of fracking, no facts or information provided, absolutely NOTHING compelling about any of it. Worst movie I have seen in a long time...first one I wanted to walk out on before it ended.

Save your money AND your time.

Stay away from this movie. Generally, I like Matt Damon movies, but this is the exception. The movie did not have a clear theme, message or purpose then it was over.

    Promised Land

It was a "nice" movie, no violence, no sex. Storyline was what attracted me to the movie, but I was disappointed in the movie itself. Slow to develop, characters were predictable. I wish I had waited until it came out on DVD - wasn't worth the money spent.

    It was really good.

    by

I thought the movie was really good.
It was a serious but somewhat funny.
But I really enjoyed it and was glad I went to see it.
I also followed it and it did not bore me like some other movies do I sat and watch it watched the whole time.

    Good movie, but...

I liked the movie, but they need to include a better disclaimer at the beginning. Some people might get the wrong idea and think there is some truth to the movie, while it is purely fictional. It is loosely based on the fact that this industry exists, but the content is 100% Hollywood.
