Promised Land

This was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Both Matt Damon and John Krasinski were excellent. Frances McDormond was also extremely good. This was a very topical movie in that fracking is going on all over the US. I also thought that Hal Holbrook was perfectly cast. If you haven't seen it, I would advise you to go.

Promised Land worth waiting for!

It's a "cute" treatment of a serious issue, but a superficial treatment. Pretty slow moving for the theater, but could be okay to watch at home. Wait to see it on Netflix or OnDemand and save a few $.

This movie was no Silkwood, Good Will Hunting or Gasland; it was a safe way to get the message about fracking out to the public.

This movie was no Silkwood, Good Will Hunting or Gasland, it was safe way to get the message about fracking out to the public. I have to agree with the other reviewer on this film. Matt Damon seems to have lost his passion for acting in this movie or maybe he was playing safe so not to lose funding for future movies he wants to make. It is just hard to believe that Matt Damon's character all of sudden grows a conscience after being promoted to a VP position. Or how someone who excels as one of the top lease signers for his company could sound like such a bumbling newbie when talking to the public regarding his companies intentions. There is a surprising twist but I understand how companies i.e. chemical, utility or mining companies will do anything to get their way. This movie could have delivered a harder impact on such an important subject. I look forward to reading your reviews and happy movie watching.

Promised Land is great Metaphor for American values.

The cast and filming of this beautiful film create a metaphor for American values of corporate greed and materialism vs American agricultural community life and values. One example of the close farming community that must decide if it wants to sell out for fracking by natural gas corporate development is the scene where a young girl is selling lemonaide. She insists on giving Matt Damon his change back from his purchase instead of just pocketing the profit. American farming communities ae vulnerable to corporate greed. There are no shootings , explodings, or violent fight scenes in this movie, so if that is what someone calls entertainment, you won't like this movie. If you appreciate human relationships and looking at values and motivations, with great character development, you will love this film!
