    Promised Landing To DVD

    by Darkola

Matt Damon, as always, did a great job in this movie, he never seems to disappoint with his acting, no matter what role is thrown at him, and the story itself is a good story about a company coming into a farm town to try and secure rights for drilling for natural gas, the money folk could make off of it, but also the damage it could do to the land, but its not an over the top story, and thats what holds this movie back. There is nothing throughout this movie that jumps out at you and says "WOW", nothing that shows there was much put into it as far as action, which its not an action movie, nor nothing showing it was an expensive movie to make either. I could have easily seen this on tv for a made for tv movie, and dont feel its worth really seeing at the show for what tickets and popcorn and things cost these days. I myself wold give this 2 1/2 stars out of 4 myself, but would wait for the DVD to come out to see this one ... Enjoy :)

Well written and engaging. Unfortunate that both fans and critics have been so lukewarm to this film. My concern is that there's a disconcerting lack of intellect, or large industry platform that's preventing many from appreciating/speaking to the very heavy reality Promised Land portrays. Whether it's gas, pharma or FDA...The message can be applied. Hoping people open their eyes soon.

    Not his best work

    by davisw

Acting seemed tense. The plot is flawed scientifically. In addition EPA head Ms. Jackson noted no drinking wells have been damaged by the fracking technique.

    Promised Land - a Flop

Very boring, can't find anything really good to say about the movie and to me it is quite misleading as to what the plot is suppose to represent... save you're money..

Promised Land: Video responses to the film on opening night in Ithaca, NY

    by cmcc860

I filmed the response of five people after the screening of Promised Land at the Regal Theater, Ithaca, NY on January 4. The video is posted on the ShaleShock YouTube channel (Video identifier is u_PIiNKDmmA in case the link doesn't work.)

Here are the questions I asked:

? Did the film meet your expectations, or were you surprised where it went?
? Did the characters portrayed in the film ring true to you?
? What is the take away message for you if any?
? Would you recommend others to see this film?

    Promised Land - Review

i thought it was quite boring and was disappointed in Matt Damon's performance. Used to seeing him in rather exciting movies, like the Bourne Series, where the plot and action carry you along.

In this movie he seemed to be sort of short and overweight, with a paunch, and certainly not handsome. Also did not project any real personality.

The movie really just confirms America's opinion of Big Business as totally corrupt and immoral. They would do anything to make more millions.

    Very lack luster movie.

    A gem of a movie!

When i was reading the reviews for this movie i was losing hope because people said it was "slow" or "boring" but i am happy to say i can't disagree with those people enough!. This movie isn't slow first of all i thought it moved at a brisk pace and matt damon and john krasinski were outstanding but rosemarie dewitt was the biggest suprise i really liked her in this movie. Yes this movie does preach a message but it's not a bad one i think promised land would be a nice way to start of your movie going year 8/10

    Very Predictable

    by tlreedy

It was too predictable and not very exciting. Very one sided.

    Promised Land

    by

This movie is one of the best dramatic performaces from Matt Damon, Frances Mcdormand, and John K, who is best known for being a comdian. I saw an episode of CSI based on the plot of the movie and it's really sad that Oil Companies do this. Everyone that was casted was believable in their roles, especially Hal Holbrook. This movie is for anyone who wants to see a great dramatic movie but don't take my word for it, see it for yourselves.

    Good flick

    by

Good, not great, but inherently watchable and attention-keeping. Good performances by Krasinski, McDormand, Dewitt, and Damon. Well-written, though a tad predictable.

    Very entertaining and educational

We enjoyed this film very much. Matt Damon does his usual good job of acting in a convincing fashion, and the other actors are very good also. The story is fairly compelling and does have a "message", but it doesn't beat you over the head. The scenery is lovely, and if you grew up on a farm it can be nostalgic. If you're a city mouse, get to know the rest of the country. Worth your money, but probably just as good on a DVD.

    Start the conversation

This film is meant to be a part of the public conversation on natural gas and the ways to obtain it. Imperfect though it may be, it is part of the palette of views on the subject.
