    POSTCARDS ~ A Dream of a Film

     by  lugubriousthespian

Mike Nichols had all the right elements going into the making of the movie version of Carrie Fisher's best-sell, semi-autobiographical novel of the same name. #1 First and foremost is this stellar cast: Meryl Streep, Shirley MaClaine, Dennis Quaid, Richard Dreyfuss, Mary Wickes, etc, etc, etc... #2 A razor-sharp script adapted by Fisher herself that is alternately a humorous and heart-breaking examination of celebrity and and the price you pay after falling from grace #3 A terrifically skewed look at the inner-working of the back-lots and subterfuge of Hollywood! What results is a fabulous comedy drama with two of the industry's best actresses playing off each other's internal rhythms marvelously and baring their souls to the camera. ( Not to forget 2 or 3 knockout musical numbers to add the price of admission! ;) All in all - a terrifically entertaining movie!!

    What a postcard this is!

     by  CookieSue

I never saw this movie in the theater, but I've seen it a number of times on TV. It is one of my top 10 favorite movies! It has a sweet wackiness about it and the parts are perfectly cast with Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Street at the at-odds show business mother and daughter.

I enjoy it thoroughly every time I see it! Who knew that Meryl Street could sing so well?
