This is definitely a must see movie for the big screen. We saw the 2D version and it was great - excellent character development, really good story line and stuff blowing up all over. Just doesn't get any better then this for an action movie. In retrospect it was bad enough to live under Roman rule but then to have an active volcano nearby??? No one should complain about anything today.

Set during the roman era A.D 79, its a true story about volcano eruption. The special effects, 3D and background score simply stunning & brilliant. There is a love story & gladiator v/s romans revenge tale interwoven, but its the revenge drama/action which adds thrills and makes it hell interesting. A good movie and definitely BIG SCREEN spectacular. Enjoyed it.

I just returned from a trip to Italy, and of course, Pompeii was a must see. I was impressed to some extent that the graphics recreated most of the city, but somewhat unimpressed that the movie had such a poor storyline. SPOILER ALERT. The capturing of the lone child survivor of the Roman execution of the entire village, and then showing a 17 year Kelt "killing machine" left a lot to be desired. Having Milo taken to Pompeii as a gladiator, and then meeting the love interest in a need to "care for the horse" is so cliche. Gladiator falls for rich/wealthy beautiful Roman citizen, is reciprocated, and perish in the aftermath of the eruption. Even though we know the results of Mt. Vesuvius, this would have been a much superior movie if the screen writers had followed the book by the same name "Pompeii". Otherwise it was a forgettable movie with only 1 good actor.

Pompeii is a crowd pleaser

Pompeii is a large, visual spectacle that tries to be many things--love story, disaster flick, struggle of good against evil, buddy flick, and action movie. It succeeds on most of these fronts. The acting is for the most part good. Kiefer Sutherland seems the most out of place in his role, playing the bravado filled Roman barbarian with little fanfare. I enjoyed the specter of the build up to the volcanic eruption in the movie's final minutes. It was CGA at its best. Every film I see seems to raise the bar on special effects and this one is no exception. Does this film have lasting social significance? No. Was it fun to watch? Yes.

Pompeii was good. We really enjoyed it. Good accuracy with historical backdrop and facts. Special effects, cinematography were excellent. While it was pg-13, it was too violent for young children.
