"NOT A FILM BUFF,? SHE PREFERS ?LA VIE RÉELLE?

Polisse, a new French film about the Child Protection Unit of the French National Police follows a string of child abuse cases, some sexual some not, and sundry matters that the CPU (Brigade de Protection des Mineurs) covers to form a depressing tableaux of contemporary France. Of course a film that features pedophiles and a mother who gives her son up to the State because she no longer has a home and does not want her son to sleep on the street cannot expected to be cheery.
Tragedy and drama are genres that push us to think and respond in ways that others do not. The problem with Polisse is clearly stated in the press notes: Maïwenn, the director and one of the co-stars, says ?Generally speaking, a bad documentary is a better source of inspiration for me than a very good feature film. I?m not a film buff
