PLANES is a worthy successor to the CARS franchise, and the depth of research that went into this movie is obvious. I had just spent the day piloting for Civil Air Patrol, and every little detail paid homage to real-world aviation. (I didn't know planes had tongues, but there they were, firmly in cheek...) Anyone at all familiar with Reno or Oshkosh will find references galore, and those of us who do fly can easily recognize our fellow aviators among the characters.
Having said that - this movie is just "plane" fun! Everyone in the theater was entranced, from 2-year-olds on up, from beginning to end. Bravo, Disney!

It was really funny and sometimes it was also sad. An enjoyable story line and well researched aviation terminology and history. Could've used a bit more suspense or a more compelling plot for Dusty (eg love interest or fear of heights struggle).

The movie Planes was no Cars. Even though it was a decent kid's movie, it followed the same formula as Cars and had no real originality to it. I did laugh out loud at a few scenes, but not many and the humor was nothing that any of my children (ages 5-9) caught. Could have waited for the rental.

Let me just start out by saying, I thought "Planes" was through Pixar. But, even if it was, I thought their last film, "Monsters University" was just okay. That's essentially how I felt when watching this one as well. Sorry, but I feel that Disney films are starting to slip in great quality! The story in "Planes" is somewhat similar to "Turbo," which I believe was a much better film. Of course, the animation is fantastic, as is the flying sequences; but, I thought the storyline was ehh. Again, I must state, because Disney is going to produce "Star Wars: Episode VII." I concerned.

I'm tired of reading reviews by people saying that this movie is too predictable or is too stereo typed. It is Disney and it is fantastic! The amount of effort and attention to detail will make any aviation enthusiast giddy during the dialogues and for those new to the aviation community, it will thrill you as well. The character development is well done and is truly right out of the world of cars (as it proclaimed itself to be from the beginning so why people complain about this as some surprise is beyond me).
Go see it! It is fun, exciting, and full of that great Disney magic that so many of us have come to love. The sound track is very well done and the animation, since we saw it in Real 3-D, was just as great as I had hoped it would be. I plan on seeing this again soon.
Planes gets my salute!
