A little dark in spots for the younger set

It would have been a good idea if the movie explained why Dusty was "dusting" the crops (to make them grow better etc.) as my nearly 5 yr-old grandson did not understand the point of the spraying at all. There were some dark parts in the film, for instance when the mentor plane confesses he only ran one mission because it was his fault his entire squadron was shot down in WWII. The other part I felt was unnecessary was the kissing between the French Canadian plane and the Mexican plane--I'm not sure why they put that in seeing as this movie is marketed for the younger crowd. All in all it was a good story about perseverance and over coming fear. My opinion is that Cars was better (story line, dialogue etc.) and this one was ok but didn't resonate with kids as much as it could have.

My 8-year old son and I LOVED this movie! Very entertaining! The story is about a crop duster plane, Dusty, who aspires to be part of a race with other fast planes! You are rooting for Dusty throughout the movie! There is not a dull part in the movie! Really cute! This is one of the best Disney films made in a long time.

Pixar Has Officially Lost the Magic

I really wanted to like this movie. I'm a big Pixar fan, and I love their earlier work. It's clear that, when Pixar and Disney joined forces, the magic passed over to Disney. When you watch Wreck-it Ralph, you forget it's not Pixar, because it tells a beautiful story in a world that our imaginations tell us could possibly exist. Meanwhile, Pixar is making dry and emotionless movies like Cars 2. Planes starts with a lot of backstory to set the stage for how a crop duster gets into an international flight competition, but since they want to focus on the competition itself, they race through the only parts that might have had heart. It's as if Cars had been about the Piston Cup race and had only hastily covered the Radiator Springs experience. I was shocked to see Lasseter's name all over the end credits. There's no way he touched this movie, because if he had, it would have been a different movie altogether.

Planes in 3D

I would say the movie was cute, but I don't think it measured up to a lot of recent movies like Despicable Me 2 and Monsters University. I took 2 grandkids with me -- the grandson loved it, the granddaughter said it was okay.

Don't spend your money to see this movie in 3D. This is the first movie that I was disappointed for spending extra money to see it in 3D. It was not worth it in my opinion. The movie itself was cute but predictable. There was nothing original about the story line.
