My 14 year old son was completely into the movie. There is just the right amount of darkness without being threatening. The animated characters were creative and not too realistic. The story line at the camp was annoying. I realized it reflects a lot of egos, but no leadership was present to direct the energy. I realize that the movie is from a book series that has already been written. That is why a little less time developing the annoy camp would have been nice. It will not stop us from seeing the next movie. I am not sure if we will add this movie to our movie library.

I laughed at the movie, in other words I like, it's actually better than Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, more characters, more parts, and more understanding. I first read all the books that was written by Rick Riordan and I waited for the movie to come out, and as I watched it, the movie is beautifully made. It's a well done movie of the year. I loved it!

I rated this so-so. For some reason, some of the 'magic' of the PJ series felt like it was lost on SOM. Perhaps it was the fact that he is obviously not 13, nor Clarisse ugly, and Dionysus wooden (set Stanley Tucci free, you dolts!). The largest failure was the choice to depart from the story as outlined in the book. Quick nerd alert for any writers out there; this is always a no-no. If your demographic is people who read the book, do not compromise on the movie! Stay true to the themes which worked on paper.
Add to the fact that the acting/dialogue got a little campy, and you'll find yourself in my shoes; wishing I had seen Red 2 instead.
Mayhap I am looking back at the first movie tainted by rosy-glassed memory; my gut is this was not nearly as well done as 'Lightning Thief'.
The books are superb reading in the YA/Fantasty genre. This second flick simply didn't hold up 2 the 1st.
High point was Nathan Fillion as Hermes. Rent it on DVD, unless you MUST see in theater

Surprise, we liked it! It was a bit more true to the story than the first movie. Have read all the books, so it was nice to see a little more honest interpretation of them. Daughter liked it, also. Saw some other reviews who were confused-I imagine this movie would be hard to get if you had no background for it.
Special effects-mostly good. Wishing the Hippocampus was a better effect...
For all ages, although little guys might get scared. Thirteen year old daughter-no problem.
No sexual situations or bad language, but lots of violence.

Visually exciting...if you hadn't read the books. But silly. It took the remaining four Percy Jackson and the Olympians books, threw out a lot of plot line and compressed it into one movie...with strange elements. I saw the first movie and used that to justify reading the books. So now I know how poorly the producers have degraded the film project.
