I thought the first Percy Jackson movie was just ok so I didn't have high hopes for this one. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It was good with a moral story line and the special effects were nice. The lord of the Rings it is not but hopefully as they keep the Percy Jackson book series going, the films will get better too.

Cute and Fun, But Have an Open Mind

Before you see this movie, know two things. First, that it is BASED on a book, it is by no means a direct translation. If you're just going to complain the whole time about how different the movie is from the book, save your money. Accept that the producers are going to change a lot of things and the author has zero control over any of them. Secondly, that it is made for CHILDREN. Kids aged 8-14 are the target audience so the screenplay is written in a simple, childish way so don't expect any complicated plot lines, deep character development or super high quality special effects. As long as you understand those two things, it is a cute, entertaining movie if you're looking to kill a couple hours. It has plenty of cool action sequences that aren't bloody or violent and lots of witty banter that both kids and adults can appreciate. There's a few emotional moments but nothing too heavy. The ending even hinted at another sequel!

Percy Jackson Sequel

Jordan and I saw this movie after seeing Elysium. It was a good double feature movie. I enjoyed the first movie better. I was moved to read the book after however, I'm no longer that into this series. This movie seemed to empathize character development over CGI special effects, which is admirable, however, I was not pulled into the characters nor did I become engaged with the drama. Throughout the movie I kept feeling like one of the characters actor was replaced from the first movie. I'm unsure if that is true, but this concern distracted me from the story and enjoying the movie.

A must see. My two boys and their friends and I went to see the movie. The boys enjoyed the movie very much and can not wait to see another sequel.

Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters

It was just as entertaining as the first one but had more graphics and more action added. There was also a little bit of more humor with Stanley Tucci in it and more background of the camp which was welcomed. With the addition of all the new characters, I would have liked to see more development of their characters and a little more explanantion of their roles. I do not think younger children will enjoy this because of the realistic characters and their behavior, so I would say teens and up would be my reccomendation for viewers. Overall I enjoyed the movie for a fun afternooon!
