Particle Farticle

Advertised as "Mind Blowing." NOT!! Mind Numbing is more like it. A documentary featuring young, bright, well-educated and energetic people, who could be applying their talents on solutions to any of the Real World problems, but who instead have chosen to dedicate there lives to the endless theorizing and obligatory squiggling of equations about sub-atomic matter (like it matters, anywhere outside academia). And on top of all this is the BILLIONS (!!!!!) that collider cost to build?? Who paid for that?? The guy in one scene who questioned from an audience, "Of what economic value is the pursuit of this knowledge?" hit it square on the head. And in the end, what was the result of this 30 year, $10 billion effort involving 3000 people? NEITHER of the two opposing "theories" were validated as previously theorized, but deemed close enough to one of the theories to congratulate themselves on a job well-done! What a pretentious waste of valuable and scarce resources.

Well-made documentary, but.....

I was very impressed with how well made this documentary is. The trouble is, it's over my head a little. The film features those brilliant scientists in search of an explanation to the universe's existence I think. But... somehow, I had a hard time understanding what they were talking about. Not because they didn't explain well perhaps, but because I thought it was way over my head. So, I just couldn't follow I guess. At the end, they announced a number, GeV I think. When the figure was announced, something like 126.2, everybody was happy. Why's that?...... The conversations are very nice, except, again, I had a hard time following. These scientists are geniuses, so I just couldn't. That's why I said, it's good, but....

science is beauty

Follow particle physicists in the true-life story of the hunt for the Higgs boson. Everything about it is spectacular: the ideas, the quest, the personalities, and the apparatus. The story is constructed in a compelling, understandable way, and the photography. If you have any interest in science, you must go. Even you have little interest in science, but are an intelligent person, you will probably enjoy it anyway.
