A lot of people went to the movie, including myself, thinking that it was going to be some typical action movie; I didn't even know it was based on true events. It ended up portraying the typical Miami lifestyle plus the bodybuilding scene to perfection. I have lived in Miami and work out religiously.
I laughed so much because, first of all, they are so dumb (typical meathead) and because they would do unimaginable stuff. The fact that all this happened makes you think that we live in a messed up world.
Marky Mark pulls this role perfectly; many people disagree because they have probably never been to a gym and just do not understand his behavior and persona. The Rock's character is just too funny; you should just better look at him yourself. The other guy, was definitely funny and a great supporting actor.
Please go see it. It has action. It is funny, It is based on true events. And it will make you wanna go get pumped of course :o)

If we had ridden separately to the theater - I would have walked out. Yes, there existed a few little chuckles - maybe 5 in an entire 2 hours. Other than that, there was basically no redeeming value to this "entertainment".

When this movie was first announced I blew it off because it looked like a waste of time, but then I hear that it's based on a true story & I had nothing better to do so I figured why not?. Even though it was better than I expected it wasn't all that either, I mean the back story itself about three beefed up guys extorting some rich criminal was definitely intriguing to think about but the movie itself was falsely advertised as it looked like just it was going to be a simple comedy but in reality it had a slight dark tone to it with profanity laced comic relief thrown in there as much as possible none of which I found funny, but like I said the back story kept me interested enough for me to give it an So-So rating

This story had some possibilities, but the movie was for the most part over-the-top bad. I think there may have been some hope of a comparison to Fargo, but unfortunately where Fargo hit the right notes on many levels, Pain & Gain missed. I don't know how true it was to the story - what a bunch of losers! I think that with better direction and writing, these actors could have made a more entertaining film.

I love the actors. Normally love their movies. The acting was good. The story, however, made the movie too hard to watch. I wanted to leave before it was over because it was so disturbing, but I was afraid something would happen to redeem the movie. Unfortunately, it didn't. Still love Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson though!
