It will take years of the therapeutic process to conclude “why” , with knowledge and foresight, I went to see this terrifically awful film; questioning the soundness of my mind, the stability of of my judgment I can only surmise I suffered from a temporary loss of sanity or a petit mal seizure.
Based on a true story which transpired in Florida in the 90’s three “muscle crunchers” led by Mark Whalberg (shares my mental lacuna) kidnap, try to kill a successful business owner, for his wealth; the only, lonely humorous moments revolve around his obstinacy, refusal to die.
“Pain” in abundance and nothing to “Gain”; skip this insufferable, pathetic, stupid morass of ineptitude.

I was not familiar with the true story that this was based on. I honestly thought it was going to be a simple kidnapping and extortion story - bad guys get caught - justice is served.
Next time - I will be doing a bit more checking before I head out to the cinema. Because - I definitely did not get what I was expecting.
I really don't blame the actors (other than for going along with it). But, a lot of stuff could have been toned down and the writing needed some help.
I really liked the cast - I think they did a pretty decent job considering what they were working with.

I don't mean that it just isn't funny. It really isn't a comedy. IT was amazing only in how horrible it was. Based upon a true story, this was a story that didn't need retelling and I'm stunned that it has the cast and director that it does. don't waste your money and don't waste your time when it comes out on cable.

This movie is factually based, and the facts are sad and unfunny. Everyone overacts and they act stupidly. It's quite violent, too. Wait for the DVD.

Pain and Gain is a must see - but probably not for everyone. Some graphic scenes can make it tough for a wide audience, BUT it IS based on a true story - which is larger than life and just a smart move to make a movie about. Having been in this industry for a long time and seen all too many things - I can tell you this story was SO well done about the odd personalities in the fitness industry. But the bigger story is just great. Go see it.
