Absolutely a fine way to spend 2 1/2 hours on a thrill ride that takes you way beyond where we've gone before. I totally disliked "TRANSFORMERS" and its offspring, but PR is so much more there really should be no comparison. Casting scores high and the visual effects are almost unbelievable. I'm a "show me" movie fan that prefers a strong story, good cinematography, sound, and professional performances... PACIFIC RIM caught me off guard by being a most entertaining cinema pleasure. My son (43) and grandson (17) were in attendance with me (78,) and we were unanimous in our "thumbs up". IT'S A HOOT!

Execellent movie. The action was great, the story line great for sci-fi. I had moments of tears, several laughs, but it was just an all around good movie. I would buy the DVD when it comes out.

Good escape for 3 hours on the weekend (including all those commercials). Almost too much action. Better quality actors handling not-much-of-a-script and all of the special effects. Ron Perlman stole the show. Worth spending the money to see on the big screen.

For anyone who spent their childhood in the 90's watching cartoons, this film will undoubtedly elicit nostalgia from all those memories associated with the Gundam franchise and its various off-shoots.
Do not worry; this is not another Transformer's film. The robots in the film are only superficially mechanical and the fact that they have human pilots makes each robot very individual and a manifestation of the pilots piloting them.
Overall, the movie had excellent special effects and a decent story with a good soundtrack. There are some slightly absurd moments in the film that make you wonder why they event left it in, but it's not enough to take away from the positive review.
If you like epic action, go watch this movie. Its as simple as that.

I took the family (OK made the family go) to see Pacific Rim last night. There were a few dissidents, but since it was my birthday weekend, they all came along. I have been waiting for this movie’s release for some time. I have always been fascinated with large robots, driven by human beings, kicking alien booty since I was young. If you loved Shogun Warriors back in the 70’s, than you will love the concept of this movie.
First, here is what is bad about the movie, (and make no mistake, this is not going to win any Oscars, unless perhaps special effects.) The writing is weak, there are some characters who are just downright silly, and naturally you have to suspend all reality and not tell yourself things like “how do those helicopters lift these massive robots”, and “what do the robot pilots do when they need to use the restroom?” But if you can get beyond this and would like to see a modern Godzilla movie where humans fight back, this is the movie for you.
