It's OK, but Was Too Blurry and Too Loud

My wife and I saw the movie in IMAX 3D. Overall, the movie was OK. But, not on the level as the hype surrounding it. The IMAX 3D experience was lacking as the music was far too loud and the scenes blurred from time to time.

In my lifetime, my mind has been blown very few times: Star wars, Jurassic Park, and Pacific Rim! The animation and special effects were incredible. I don't think I've ever seen a better combination of live action and green-screen effects in one scene! One thing I liked was that the commercials showed only the fighting, whereas this movie contained much more drama, and the Central theme was completely different than what I thought. Also, when I saw the movie, I realized that I didn't recognize any of the cast. The previews and commercials didn't even show any of them. It only shows them in pilot suits, and Idris Elba saying, "Today we are cancelling the apocalypse!" The one thing that annoyed me so bad was that the entire time, they were in the water! When they finally fought on land I was thankful, then things were taken to the sky, but then back to the ground and back to the drawing board, then completely under water! It really leaves you thinking, but the 3D distracted that feeling.

Awesome Train Wreck

How this movie hit above 70 on Rotten Tomatoes is beyond me. Man of Steel was a much better film. I went for the fight scenes and I left satisfied on that alone. However the rest of the movie was such a train wreck that it was painful. Some observations: 1. Can people actually act anymore or was George Lucas directing this? Side note: how did the primary male lead win that job? 2. I don't think they could have fit in anymore clichés into this film. The only thing it missed out on was the love triangle - something that I would put money on is in the sequel. 3. Did they have to explain everything three times? 4. The dude that operated the screens at the HQ could not have been more annoying. Had he not explained every plot point for me as it was happening, I might have thought better of him. They should have had Jean-Ralphio take that spot to make it at least bearable. 5. I am now so glad GDT did not direct the Hobbit after seeing this awesome train wreck.

I had wanted to see this for some time. Finally talked the wife into going. She was not pleased - or claimed not to be. She called it a 'guy' movie but I honestly think she enjoyed it too. We saw it in IMAX 3D, I think it would have been just as solid in a normal theater. Haven't been that satisfied leaving a movie since Avatar....might have enjoyed this one a bit more.

This is clearly the best big action movie of the year! Del Toro is a brilliant visualist with an eclectic and original mind. Well worth seeing in IMAX and 3D. If you enjoy action, quality work, and a powerful soundtrack do not miss this one. Del Toro regular Ron Perlman is a hoot and helps anchor the film with a fun and gritty performance. This director is always interesting to watch. Looking forward to his next (hopefully deeper) gift to movie goers. A bit scary and overpowering for kids or dogs.
