Pacific Rim is amazing in IMAX 3D. If there is any movie this summer that needs to be seen in the biggest and loudest screen possible, it's this one. The story is easy to get into and the special effects are awesome. Watching the huge robots fight the kaiju is exciting and fun. Great summer movie. I can't wait for the sequel!

Don't go expecting amazing acting and no plot holes, but do expect great VFX and action scenes. I'd definitely see this on the biggest screen you can. In my case it was an IMAX 3D presentation and it was immersive and intense and the huge screen definitely helped play up the immense scale of the jaegers. I loved the kaiju and thought that for the most part, they did a great job in portraying the incredible scale and sheer destructive power of both alien and machine. I'm gonna go again.

Guillermo Del Toro understands the genre

I came in expecting a pretty mediocre movie, with the “Blade” sequels and the confusing Qualcomm keynote at CES in the back of my head. I left being pretty impressed with what Del Toro did. Looking at it, the film is clearly inspired by “Neon Genesis Evangelion,” and heavily influenced by other kaiju, like the “Gundam” series. However he put a powerful spin on it to make the movie not only unique in the genre, but appealing to a broad American audience and managed to get it to make sense in a live action film. Guillermo shows a clear understanding of the genre and manages to make it work without gutting it. That being said, it's not the greatest film ever. It's a bit predictable at times, and some parts seem a little contrived (“wall of life?” Really?) but it's not so heavy handed that it destroys your ability to enjoy the movie. Del Toro also makes good use of the IMAX 3D screen, but mostly that epic sound system. Even if you skip 3D, the IMAX sound system is worth it.

It was entertaining - we saw it at the IMAX in 3D, so all the visuals were great. The plot was just a little predictable, but still enjoyed it.
