Average work

Story is pretty decent, but with no depth of explanation. Although the premise in interesting, the "solutions" the world develops are just dumb and you have to be capable of significant leaps of faith to stay with the plot. The only saving grace is the CGI and fast paced action. It was fun to watch strictly as a viewing experience. Engaging for sure. If you think Independence Day and movies of that ilk are great then go see this. If you want character development and depth, you should stay away. Far away.

Pacific Rim a must see

Loved the fast pace of the action. The comedic parts worked great. I'll go watch it again. Watched it in 3D and loved it. Wasn't overdone with things flying at you. Loved the fish in the underwater scene at the beginning, it was like they were swimming in the audience.

Monsters are taking over the earth, humans assemble and go to the rescue. Yes the plot is that thin, but the story, special effects and acting is very good. Its a must go

Fierce Special Efx, So-So Story

Pacific Rim had fierce special effects! The CG work was inspired and wonderful to watch. But the storyline could've used more help. Character development was non-existent. That lack of character development was most devastating to the beautiful Rinko Kikuchi's character, "Mako Mori". Everyone called her 'Mako'; she called them 'Mister', like she was the maid, when she was actually their better-qualified colleague. That rhetorical "inconsistency" irritated me to no end. Mako was (became) just another yearning, subservient Asian female stereotype. Pfft! She was better than that! She IS better than that! But the graphics were outstanding, and the aliens were scary, and the men were heroic and brave. And, 'Mako' nabbed her brave, heroic he-man savior. The end.
