Holiday Treat
This is a pleasant comedy/drama about love, loss and coming to terms with the curves life throws one's way. Hilary Swank is very good as Holly, who loses her beloved husband of 9 years at only 29, and follows her journey through grief to recovery, led by the letters he's left her. Gerard Butler is charming and goofy as her free-spirited Irish husband Gerry, who remains a strong presence in her life through his letters and the memories they inspire.
As Holly progresses through the first year of her widowhood, she's helped by her friends (Lisa Kudrow and Gina Gershon) and her mother (Kathy Bates). She meets Daniel, (Harry Connick, Jr) a bartender at her mother's pub, who has problems with social cues yet is a strong shoulder to lean on and a possible future love. And on a trip to Ireland (arranged by Gerry), she meets William, an Irishman with a connection to her dead husband.
Along the journey, Gerry helps Holly discover herself and a future. Go along, and then hug those you love.
