The strength of this movie is absolutely the stunning visuals. It was made to be seen in IMAX 3D. Yes, the acting is great - (although James Franco's "Oz" did come off as a bit flat at times, and overplayed at others) - and the story was good - (the handling of the fate of Chinatown was confusing and cold) - the visuals are the star of this show.

Oz The Great and Powerful was great movie! Great cast (James Franco is wonderful as Oz/Oscar Diggs). The story is also very good with some thrilling moments (The Witch's transformation, the flying baboons, Oz's arrival). My favorite character was Finley as he bought a lot of humor. I also loved how the beginning was in black & white and then into color. With wonderful 3D, wonderful cast and characters, and a wonderful story, Oz The Great and Powerful is a great beginning to The Wizard Of Oz!

Loved it ! The actiing was great by all, especially Mila Kunis and James Franco. The only part that was a little over the top was when OZ arrives in OZ...looked like Avatar all over again, but perhaps they felt they needed to emphasize the 3D. 3D was best represented elsewhere, with Glenda and the bubbles, the toy doll, and Mila's flying on the broom. Children under 8 might be frightened by the flying monkey's, but that is only a short time frame on the screen, so you parents should decide. The plot makes sense in respect to the original can be seen next and pick up from the end of this one. Recommend this film to all !

Slow......

One would make the assumption that an actor that can act against a green screen must really know their craft. But that doesn't hold true for Oz The Great and Powerful. Saw it in IMAX 3D and while images were stunning the plot was terribly slow. James Franco was not great, or mediocre as Oz... He was flat and stiff in his characterization. Mila Kunis seemed to be in a trance until she became green, Michelle Williams was "too good" to be true and Rachel Wiez wasn't mean enough or scary enough to be wicked witch. Overall I would say wait til this comes out on the Disney Channel and save the $$$

Anyone who has seen The Wizard of Oz should see this movie. A simple prequel to, fill in those childhood questions. We saw it in I-Max 3D... The 3D-ness was GREAT. At times the acting seemed a bit flat, this may have been due to the fact that they didn't bother themselves with too much with the "old-fashioned way of speaking", so I was never transported away from the feeling that I was watching "James, Mlia, Rachel & Michelle" (though Michelle was by far the most convincing!).
