Oz The Great and Powerful has great things going for it. The visuals were vibrant and beautiful. The CGI is really good. This movie has the best use of 3D I've seen outside of an animated film (better than Avatar). It's worth an IMAX 3D ticket.
The supporting actors (especially the CGI characters) are excellent. Their dialogue, believability, and comedic relief are top notch. They make this movie very playful and fun!
So what's not so great? The main characters. Their acting, dialogue, and interactions come off as acting 101. There is very little character development. Franco's character comes off as one dimensional to a fault. Mila Kunis is not believable in her role at all.
It's a shame that the main actors do not capture the whimsy of the original Oz movie. Despite this, this movie is worth seeing. Just don't expect a masterpiece on par with its inspiration.
There are no scenes during or after the credits.

Good special effects. Brainless, cliche, predictable writing. Franco miscast, plastic, and one quickly tires of his cheesy grin. Jokes come off flat. This story could have been so much more; but unfortunately is a literary, cinematographical dis-service to the classic Wizard of Oz.

I just saw this movie. It was a delight. I really felt like I was in a different world. It's the little things in the movie that give a tip of the hat to the Wizard of Oz. I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't wait for DVD on this one. Seeing it on the big screen at least once is where it is at.

I had to see it in IMAX 3D at a real IMAX theater. Don't waste your money. It is the same story retold with the wizard playing dorothy, the monkey, china doll playing the scarecrow etc and the witches. Special effects good as was the 3D. But that does not make a good movie. Children will enjoy.

James Franco didn't capture the character of Oz correctly. The witches were also second rate in their acting. However, as an overall, performance, I was on the edge of my seat. I laughed, jumped up and felt an honest sense of wonderment. So, I ask you, when was the last time you could say that about a movie?
