I have been wanting to go see this movie since I first heard it was coming out last year. I had a baby in November 2012 and haven't been out since. I chose this time to have my first outing and went to the 9 o'clock showing. That was my first mistake. I'm usually in bed by 9. I was tired when I got there. Still I enjoyed the movie. It was really well put together and I loved how they told the story of the true wicked witch. I fell asleep a couple times despite my great effort otherwise. The "fight" scene was what got me. It was just kind of drawn out. One thing that surprised me though, especially at a 9pm showing, was that there were a WIDE variety of viewers. From ages 4 to well above 40. All around a great movie, but I don't know if it was worth losing sleep and time with my baby. I could have dealt with waiting for the DVD.

Loved this movie! Every minute was wonderful. My only complaint would be that I thought I bought the 3D version. I will have to go see it again in 3D format. I was confused when I bought the tickets, and a bit mad that I really wanted to see it all alive.

I found this movie to be a little less than I had expected, it would be unfair to compare it to the original because it is not a remake, it is a prequel. ... As a prequel it had a good story line, but for me it was just a so-so movie, that is only my opinion ... I would not discourage anyone from going to see it, and judging for yourself ... The best thing about this movie is that anyone of any age can go and see it, no cursing, no nudity, and very little to frighten you ... Some of the special effects seemed to blur in and out causing a little dizziness trying to keep everything in focus ... Maybe the special effects would have been better in 3D...

First of all, this is not a remake of the classic movie, it is a different part of the story. It is magical, and fun and colorful and yes, over-acted, but it works for the most part. My boys, ages 12 and 10 really liked it.

Some reviewers said they were disappointed because of "adult humor". Besides the comment about the sock being on the door (which wasn't that bad because there was nothing really going on), there wasn't really any adult humor that I noticed.
Was it as good as the original? Let's get serious! The Wizard of Oz is a classic and no one should be expecting this movie to compare to it. It was however, a very enjoyable movie to watch. My children loved the monkey, the munchkin named Nook, and the china doll characters. They were the real comedy in the movie.
It might not be the reincarnation of the Wizard of Oz, but it was a fun night out. I will be buying the movie on Dvd so I can watch it with my family again.
