I was disappointed, I love James Franco and he did a good job but I almost think Johnny Depp would have given the character a little more animation. The wicked witches were horrible!!!!! Could have found better actresses that could come across as really evil. they just didn't do it for me at ALL. However Glinda was perfect. The story was cute, but a little too long, thought there could have been a few more one liners to lighten it up a bit especially with the little flying monkey. Too much was going on, and it was too choppy. Tried to shove too many things in and neglected the storyline. I think it should have ended back in Kansas with Oz and Glinda living "Happily Ever After". The 3D was awesome though.

My wife and I saw "Oz, The Great And Powerful 3D" opening weekend. My wife is an avid "Wizard of Oz" fan to the point of obsession. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie. That is, what we could hear. The theater (AMC Grapevine Mills 30, Theater #7) was having audio issues to the point that it was extremely difficult to hear/understand the dialogue. I asked a staff member if they could look at it and nothing happened.
After we got home from the theater, I noticed that a friend of mine had just tweeted that he was in that same theater (number 7) the night before and they had the same issue. If they were having technical issues with the sound system all weekend, then they should have taken that theater offline. Movie tickets cost too much these days for moviegoers to endure a mediocre experience.

From the beginning one realizes this isn't yesterday's 3D! Perhaps even more so than the color portions of the film, the B&B 3D (at the start) was remarkable if for no other reason than one is not so distracted by the amazing colors later. During the remaining pumped-up color scenes the 3D was spectacular although I felt the backgrounds fell a bit flat.
The story is fun if a bit different than expected based on the "original" film. Given its length, I'm not sure much more could be done to create more interest in the characters; perhaps this will wait for the next release (spoiler alert:) since there is a witch waiting to come back!
Overall I'd say this is a very good film with excellent visuals including the monkey and baboons. I don't believe I'd necessarily take children under say 10 but the scary scenes are reasonably light and brief.
Go see this movie. It was fun!

The movie was slow and a bit drug out in the black and white section. I thought the acting sometimes was a bit "lacking".
The movie is a MUST in 3D. I think in regular viewing it will be less than par. BUT, I am a wizard of OZ fan so, I loved it just for that.
