From the beginning one realizes this isn't yesterday's 3D! Perhaps even more so than the color portions of the film, the B&B 3D (at the start) was remarkable if for no other reason than one is not so distracted by the amazing colors later. During the remaining pumped-up color scenes the 3D was spectacular although I felt the backgrounds fell a bit flat.
The story is fun if a bit different than expected based on the "original" film. Given its length, I'm not sure much more could be done to create more interest in the characters; perhaps this will wait for the next release (spoiler alert:) since there is a witch waiting to come back!
Overall I'd say this is a very good film with excellent visuals including the monkey and baboons. I don't believe I'd necessarily take children under say 10 but the scary scenes are reasonably light and brief.
Go see this movie. It was fun!

My wife and I saw "Oz, The Great And Powerful 3D" opening weekend. My wife is an avid "Wizard of Oz" fan to the point of obsession. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie. That is, what we could hear. The theater (AMC Grapevine Mills 30, Theater #7) was having audio issues to the point that it was extremely difficult to hear/understand the dialogue. I asked a staff member if they could look at it and nothing happened.
After we got home from the theater, I noticed that a friend of mine had just tweeted that he was in that same theater (number 7) the night before and they had the same issue. If they were having technical issues with the sound system all weekend, then they should have taken that theater offline. Movie tickets cost too much these days for moviegoers to endure a mediocre experience.

Great movie and not just for kids. I especially liked the monkey voiced by Zach Braff. It was cool to see what they came up with for the back story of the wizard and the three witches.

Great movie! Loved every minute of it. What a wonderful escape! The plot lived up to my expectations and beyond. A beautiful movie. The panaramic views of the world of Oz were spectacular.
The theme of the new movie had a lot in common with the characters in the1939 Wizard of Oz. James Franco is a cutey and so were all the witches.
Now, I'm ready for a remake of the Wizard of Oz.

3 amazing women, a fine supporting cast and quality special effects do not make up for the fact that James Franco does not have a lick of acting ability. I'm hard pressed to think of a worse choice than him.
