I saw this movie twice this week. Once on Tuesday with my son and his fiance and we saw it without 3D because neither of them like to watch 3D movies. I, on the other hand, love them. All through the movie I kept thinking how wonderful everything would look in 3D so yesterday I went by myself and watched the 3D version. Fantastic!!! Awesome story of how Oz got there in the first place. James Franco was the perfect Oz. I would venture to say he may well become the new Johnny Depp. It's hard to give a review of this wonderful film without adding a spoiler so I'll just close by saying you will love how everything leading up to the end plays out and how it relates to the future coming of Dorothy. Hmm...will Disney now do a remake with Dorothy and the gang? I'd go see it :)

This was a wonderful film that explains alot of how things came to be before Dorthy's arrival to OZ! Franco's acting was a little weak but I believe this was his first leading roll and he still did a very good job. The Cinematography and effects were great and at one point I was waiting for the THX jingle to play during the movie. Its a movie more for young adults and up, as it may be a little long in some points for the younger crowds.
In short, go see it, Disney has a good movie after a string of so-so movies. I recommend IMAX 3D if you can. Oh, and watch for all the cameo's.

Beautiful colors and landscapes, visually appealing throughout. The movie was good - a couple of surprises, some adult sarcasm thrown in for comedic relief. Overall a good movie, and if you are going to see it, spend the extra money for 3D on this one!

First, let me just say that if I was rating the movie itself, I would've rated it a "Go." With that being said, here is what I thought about the 3D aspect of this movie.
This movie is meant to be seen in 3D, period. It was that good. Sam Raimi intended the audience to watch it in 3D, and it shows throughout the movie, with well planned camera shots and angles. Not only is the use of depth present, in scenery and landscapes, there are also plenty of "pop-out' moments. It's not in the sense of things coming within arms reach of the viewer but in the sense that you can tell the objects are flying off screen, or sometimes at you, adding the "before the window" dimension to the film. At times it even felt like I was on a ride. There were no problems with the brightness either. I was able to make out everything in the movie.
Overall, I think it's definitely worth the few extra dollars to see this movie in 3D. No question. I actually want to see it again!
